"Should the creature be responsible for the missing people, I'm sure preventing future incidents is a worthwhile endeavor. Ideally, with as few casualties as possible."
It's not like he'd believe her if she said the Scribes sent her. But maybe he'll sympathize with what she follows up with.
"A friend of mine asked me to investigate why two of his colleagues went missing. They too were investigating the creature."
Oh dear goodness, 4 miles on foot in the dark. And Valencia has some ice Pokemon once there's no one around, but could use a fire type that she'd need time conceptualizing if she wants to make something stable and long term. Time in the cold, Alaskan dark. She'll have to use a spell or a brush technique, coupled with riding something to speed things up.
He stops at the end of the trail and puts it in park.
"Look, creature, no creature. It's dangerous out here. You really shouldn't go walking out here alone. There are bears and wolves. Not to mention you probably freezing to death out here."
"The bears and wolves won't hurt me. I'd be more worried about the creature. As for the cold... How's the reception out there? We can keep in touch along the way if it's not too much trouble."
This is moreso to not have the deputy worry about her.
"Thanks. I'll be sure to come back in one piece. If the other guy could, then so can I."
Off she goes into the freezing night, walking all normal-like, albeit rubbing some warmth into her every so often, until she's sure the deputy can no longer see her.
Valencia immediately conjures a flying carpet to sit on, some layers of blankets to wrap herself up in, and a glowing ball of light for her to see with. She rides along, looking for a cave.
