Trying to Establish a Routine (V. Open)

School had already ended when Richard stepped into Gymnasium C, wearing a pair of Clinch Wear shorts and a grey muscle shirt. His feet were bare; no ankle braces, and he was only carrying a pair of green five-pound weights. Isolating himself in the corner he had already pre-determined a spot in order to stay out of whatever team sport was going to practice today. Whoever they were didn’t matter as he put the weights down by his side and unclipped the headphones attached to his collar. Putting them behind his ear he fitted them both in place before pressing in on his hip, activating his Ipod that sat inside the pocket designed for his mouth guard.

Picking the weights back up he got into his fighting stance, elbows tucked, fists eye level, body curled with his feet bouncing and started to shadow strike for the first half of Eminem’s Superman, then moved burpee’s, only performing sprawls instead a straight leg/push up stance. Stabilo Boss’ ‘One more Pill’ followed the crude yet amusing lyrics of the white rapper, which prompted the 15 year old freshmen to switch back over to shadow striking, this time preserving more of his energy by working on his blocks and working through his 22 punches slowly while still using the weights. Roughly three minutes passed before he put the weights down, assuming a wide push-up position and started to bring his knees up past the outside of his shoulders, doing mountain climbers for the remainder of the song.

Once Stabilo Boss had finished playing he stood up, leaving the weights on the ground as sweat already started to pour down his body, soaking into his muscle shirts collar and underarms. Closing his eyes he worked through a full body stretch while Collective Soul’s ‘December’ rang through his mind. He worked more on dynamic stretching with full neck and arm swings, hip rotations, and windmills, knee rotations, and then works his wrists and ankles together. Following his stretching ‘Rawk Fist’ by Thousand Foot Krutch started to play and he went down into a closed grip push-up stance, holding the weights in his hands as he went down, then push up. Every time he rose up he’d pull one of the weights across his chest while raising his arm high into the air, then back down, then back up, this time with the other arm. Rolling over he held the weights by his tucked up legs, keeping his arms still as he started to perform sit-ups to Chris De Burgs “Patricia the Stripper’.

He finished that song and stood back up, finishing off with one last set of shadow striking, working in single and double leg take downs through Green Day’s ‘Basketcase’ and Creed’s ‘One.’ Having finished roughly 30 minutes of working out by himself he looked up at the gymnasium’s clock, noticing it was just about to roll over to 4pm, and decided that without a partner to practice submissions and rolling that today’s exercises would be enough. Putting the weights back down and sitting with his back to the wall he took the clips off his ears and hooked them back on his collar, taking a deep breath as he tried to focus himself. He realized that much stretching was almost useless, at least for negating injuries given that he hadn’t trained long enough.

Tilting his head back he heard a soft squeaking noise as his short hair left a wet streak down the wall, his back and shoulders providing he same degree of moisture as his skull.
