It felt like ages since Steve had wandered these particular halls. Years spent with his friends and family doing incredible things. Those years really had been a dream come true for him, everything he had wanted when he enlisted and more. Not that it had been without it's hardships. There were plenty of dark times, times when he wondered if he had made a mistake joining up. But God had set him on this path and made him the person he was. He could only trust that his journey was not finished.
Hesitating momentarily outside of the conference room's door he debated what to project forward. A professional and serious demeanor would probably be best. They were all adults after all. He looked at his hands, aged and callous. The wedding ring around his finger dulled and no longer shining, but well worn and well aged, if well taken care of. But then again, this was a place of his childhood, as odd as that may be.
"Mmm."
He let out a pleased sound. He'd let himself into the once familiar conference room, striding into it as youthful as the day he had enlisted. A pleased smile fixed on his face as he scanned to see if he was the last one here or not as he took a seat.
He's looking down at a stack of folders, one of which is already open in front of him, reading over the information within. He doesn't look up as Steve enters, apparently absorbed in his task.
"It does feel weird to be the one behind a desk rather than on the field."
He said in agreement with John as he settled into his seat and reverted back to his actual age. Maybe his first instinct had been right and it was not the time for fun.
Ceres smiles brightly at her peers. It's been a long time and there were a lot of fond memories she had with each one of them. Granted she had friction with Steve but with age came maturity and acceptance.
"Yes. And any outstanding state of affairs with current threats perhaps."
Were there any threats that's still applicable present day?
"As far as I know, there is only the one current threat that we are all aware of."
Jack's lips pull downwards in a slight frown.
"Most of Europe has fallen to the Chthonic Empire, from Turkey to Portugal, then all the way up to Romania and Poland. Thankfully, it appears that being separated by water is keeping the United Kingdom and Sweden so far."
Jack taps the table with one finger.
"...and since the peace treaty was signed five years ago, the Chthonic Empire has gone quiet, though recent reports show activity along the borders."

"We do have a team working on that. They relay information when they can, but we haven't gotten anything lately. All we know is it seems that their leader has retreated from the public eye for some years now."
"On the surface, it appears as if the citizens are treated fairly, all things considered. It wouldn't be much of an Empire if there were no civilians left to work in it, but it's still forced slavery. If we were to intervene, it would spark an international incident, and considering the United Nation's lack of success in pushing the Chthonic Empire back, I'm not eager to start another World War."
"While I am not personally a fan of doing nothing, I fear any action we currently take would result in war and countless deaths. The most I would suggest for now is to reinforce the boarders as best we can."
