It was good to get out of the party. Things were just taking a bad turn that left a sour taste in Rebecca's mouth, in part due to Silas's silent challenge that she just didn't get. Still dressed up as a zombie baker, she was walking alongside Eric in silence, waiting for hte music of pod four to dim before she would speak.
"That wasn't cool, Eric." Her voice was rough but not loud or overly angry.
Again, a moment of silence as they wander off the direct path to their pod. Why waste time in costume?
"He...I don't know." She hakes her head and falls silent again. At least he could see the destruction of his friend happening in the long run, rather than follow blindly. She frowns and adds, "But that's not what I was talking about."
No beating around the bush on this one. Not that she normally did, but hte bluntness carries in her voice.
"I don't like being touched, Eric. Especially not in a huge group of people like that. Too many bodies." Too many unknown factors and overstimulization.
She could have told him that much. Still, she accepted the apology with a nod. She didn't doubt that eric was sincere, just overly excited, and yet that didn't excuse him from his actions having consequences.
"Just...don't do it again, alright? I don't know if you've met other metas or people who don't like or can't stand it, but I'd appreciate it if you remembered from now on." She lets her lips flicker in a smile to lighter the situation. "I don't cover myself head to toe for kicks, you know? With all the people there, you're lucky it was you and not someone else."
"Most public schools weren't equipped to deal with it. My folks sure weren't." He said with a laugh. "So I got shoves into all of those special needs programs for metas growing up. And therapists." He kept his tone light to try and avoid any awkwardness with the subject.
"Not cause I was crazy or anything. Just to like, teach me that I can't use my power because I'm upset. Or to go around my parents. Ya know?"
"Can't say I always listened. But the message was recieved loud and clear I guess. I mean I'm not out there robbing banks or making counterfeit bills with my powers just "because I can."" He said, finishing the sentence with air quotes.
"Covering their bases just in case." She mulled over a thought in her head, looking down at the floor as she did so before remembering that Eric was still there. Her cheeks flushed momentarily, but she pretended otherwise.
"You know, it's really too bad that we have Paradigm, but nothing solid for smaller towns and kids growing up with powers. Not every place can afford it, I know, but it still feels like it's just sort of accepted."
"Well I mean... It's there now. Nothing like this sure, but there are specialists all over the place if you look for them. It's getting more and more common everyday. I mean it has to. You and me. We're the next generation. The new normal."
"It's only a matter of time," she agrees, eying the scissors in his neck. "Sooner for some of us than later.
"Still, I know what you mean. We have a lot of stuff people before us didn't. I haven't been back to my hometown in years. Maybe they've improved, too."
"Sort of." She stretches her arms forward, entwining her fingers and pushing them to let them pop. Her farms fell back to her sides, fingers playing with the folds of her skirt.
"There were...a lot of specialists. A lot. When it was pretty clear I couldn't control my powers, parents went from pity to scared I'd end up hurting their kids. So, no special education classes for me." She shrugged. "Maybe they were right. Either way, I was home-schooled for a long time. Too much risk and too many school days missed trying to get things sorted out.
"We lived near a playground back then, so I was still stuck with e bullies and jerks. I went back when we moved, but that wasn't going to last much longer, anyway."
