"I bet you could do an amazing job if you chose that one," Rebecca offered, not crediting herself for her performance but instead focusing on the other girl's comfort level. Having never really been allowed to be a kid herself, she had a soft spot for seeing others could.
He leaned in forward to look at the rock. Man, everyone had such interesting powers! He wished he could talk to rocks, or the things he pulled out of portals!
The mention of Fred's powers catches Rebecca's interest as she grins. This was something that fully had her interest, and the girl seemed rather sweet and quiet. Hopefully she was getting along with her roommates, whoever they were.
"Yeah, seriously. He seems content with the two of you. It's like talking to any other human, sort of. Some are smarter than others, some more straightforward. It's interesting hearing new perspectives. My ability is more impressive when I'm translating though. I can understand every language I can hear, at least so far."
She seems excited to have someone to talk about her ability with.
"If it's not too rude of me to ask, what's your ability, Rebecca?"
"That is fantastic. I'm glad he's okay with us." Rebecca nods, shifting her weight to her left foot as she regards the fossilized shell.
"It's not rude," she assures the younger girl. "A lot of people here will ask about each other's powers when they meet. It's kind of the norm." Like now. Fred's excitement is good to see.
"I have the ability to cause decay with a touch." She wiggles her gloved fingers. "Good for this time of year, at least." Her gestures are still very much within her own bubble, but Rebecca has grown significantly more comfortable telling people what she can do now that she's been at Paradigm and made friends who aren't weirded out.
She puts away her fossil to direct her attention to Rebecca's gloved hands.
"You must certainly know what you are doing to wield something akin to a Midas Touch. Can it be reversed, or does your touch not work on certain materials?"
Fredegund looks between Eric and Rebecca.
"I can definitely see how you two can apply your powers on the field. I have to admit, I'm a bit envious, since talking can only do so much. But I'm going to work extra hard to improve my own abilities to help whenever I can."
"Eh, it was a fair trade," Rebecca shrugs at Eric's enthusiasm, but still smiles. A little. She's not had this many questions about her power in a while, but nods as Fred continues.
"It's just a one way thing. Sadly, I can't control it; it just happens whenever I touch organic stuff." She mulled over the possibilities of Fred's power, not wanting her to feel bad. That always sucked.
"Well, I'm sure you could understand if an enemy is speaking with someone in a different language, right? Or maybe to the living things in an area."
"As for you Fred. Don't feel bad. Honestly I think it's great if you can't use your power in a fight. I mean why would you want to fight? Instead you should think of all of the cool things you can do with your power! You can talk to objects! Any person in the whole world. How freaking cool is that!?"
"Indeed, to what Eric said about you controlling your skills yet, and, well, everything else. You're both quite right about application. I definitely don't look forward to fighting. My, it's easy to take what you have for granted once you've seen how much greener the grass is on the other side..."
Rebecca glances at Eric from the corner of her eye at his interruption and folds her arms, but the smile turns rueful rather than fades. He really was an optimist, though she still hoped for a different outcome than what she currently had.
Add Fred's compliments to the mix and she was ready to pry herself away to get a break from the attention, especially after actually being on the makeshift stage.
"I'm sure you'll find all new ideas of your own, too," she adds. Looking around, she takes a step away from the crowd, finding that it, along with the mush and encouragement, was a bit much.
Fredegund hoped she didn't say anything inappropriate, upon briefly noticing that Rebecca's smile didn't quite reach her eyes, so to speak. Was it the grass idiom she said? She didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings... She hoped for another opportunity to make up for it, instead of calling too much attention to it. It's the right thing to do.
"I would, if it's not too much trouble. In fact, my treat."
Rebecca knows by now that she can trust Eric's magic food and agrees with a nod.
"Yeah, somewhere other than here." Cue point as whoever is on stage at the moment lets out an off key note that leaves their voice cracking. She winces and shakes her head at Fred.
"Another time, maybe. I think Eric is offering for this round."
