Music blared through the courtyard as sun began to dip down the sky. A karaoke machine was set up along with a TV and some awesome speakers all hooked up to a power generator. Standing on the pavement mike in hand and singing along to the music was Eric. Totally in his jam and having a rootin' tootin' good time.
A few people were passing by and giving him weird looks, while others stopped and watched. He seemed to enjoy the attention and moved closer to the ones sticking around singing at them. A huge grin plastered on his face.
So this is it: The first time Fredegund has ever been on her own. Talk about jumping into the deep end. There were so many sights and sounds and people of many kinds... Not to mention users too. She didn't even know where to start, until she heard music coming from the courtyard.
Once outside, she joined the crowd to watch the show. The singer was having such a good time! The smiling was infectious!
When the song was over he'd spread his arms basking in the praise, whether or not any of it came toward him. He'd bunny hop back a few feet and motion the Microphone at the crowd.
"Any one else want next? Requests? Don't be shy. It's Friday night and let's have a partaaaaayyy!"
Fredegund claps when he finishes. It's the polite thing to do after a performance!
She looked around to see if anyone else was going to raise their hand. Fun... What would be a fun song... She reached into her pocket and sought guidance from her helix fossil.
He bowed his head and took a few steps back toward the machine.
"I was always a Barbie Girl fan myself. But I suppose this is fitting for the venue."
The song would start up and Eric would do a surprisingly good job of it considering he had to switch between a gritty and lower singing voice to a falsetto for the female parts. Zero shame about it
Oh, so THAT'S what that song was! How appropriate! She'll have to hear the original version herself later since the singer did a good job at it. She applauds again. She'll have to come up with another request, since she's more of a dancer than a singer.
Time to consult the helix. The helix must've heard other songs. The helix knew all. She holds her friend up to her ear, then puts it back into her pocket.
"Can I have another request? Na Na Na by My Chemical Romance?"
He'd start up the requested song once more. He'd try to get more active with this one. Hopping up and down with the beat. His free hand making crawling motions when the song mentioned crawling. It would pat his chest like a heart beat as he asked for love.
And with the chorus he'd hold the mic to the crowd for them to do the Na's. Whether or not anyone joined in. He'd just keep going, bouncing excitedly and having a blast!
It's not hard to get pumped by the song! The energy was so wild that she didn't even notice the more explicit lines! Fredegund was more entranced by how the music sounded than the words that made up the song. She totally sang along to the Na's though.
Boy is she going to be shocked if she looks up this song later.
Not wanting to hog all the requests or others who want to sing, she keeps to herself.
When the song finally ended he'd hand the mic off to someone. It didn't really matter who.
"I gotta get a drink. Sorry folks! Keep rocking and remember to tip your waitress!" He winked at the crowd walking right for Fredegund, she was the only one giving him requests so she had his attention.
"Hey, can I have a sip of that glass of water?"
He'd ask, reaching forward past her head and pulling a glass of water from a portal quickly. All smiles.
The mic is handed off to Rebecca! The dark haired girl had been dragged along by Eric, who insisted it woudl be good for her. She'd been standing back from the everyone and decides to roll with it despite her sweaty palms. She stareed at the mic for a moment and shrugged. Might as well, right?
"You know you do, Eric," she mutters playfully. Of course it's a Brittany Spears song, which means of course Eric picked it. She made a face but selected the song he requested. She had no dancing rhythm to speak of, but she could sing well and had the energy for it, adding the inflections that she felt appropriate, including where the song slowed at the bridge.
She also was distracted for a moment, able to lose herself in the singing rather than the group of people that had left her nervous. Seeing them again as the song ended left her throat suddenly dry, swallowing against the tension as she went to hand off the mic.
Obscurity sounded good now. Preferably before she had time to fully reflect on what she'd just done.
"I'm Fredegund. I'm new here. Pleased to meet you."
She rocked her head to the new song. Compared to the previous song, this song's lyrics were easier to keep up with. This new singer sounded even better as the song went on, once the stage fright went away. Once the song was over, she applauds!
She's already drowning outside the safe zone! Since no one had taken the mic when Eric gave his next request, she would either have to take it or drop the mic. Given the rush that came with the last one, she decided she'd give the next song a shot despite not being as familiar with it.
When it started playing, she shot Eric a look that told him exactly what she thought of his request, but sang anyway. Her self conscious attitude returned, fading by the refrain as she got the used to the beat. She could feel her cheeks flaming; the song was the exact opposite of Rebecca herself.
"What about you?" she asks the girl standing next to Eric. She's a few years younger than Rebecca, which helped the friendly demeanor become genuine. "Any requests?" Go big or go home, right?
"Pleased to meet you, Eric. I was approved a few days ago."
She jumped away when he dropped the glass, only to stare when it disappeared. Definitely a user.
"What an astonishing ability!"
This song now, this song? It sounded interesting but...
" 'Crunk'?"
What does THAT mean--Oh, the song is about getting drunk. Oh my, this song was really inappropriate for her. What would her parents think if they knew?! She covered her mouth to hide her gaping. Oh dear. But wait, this is what she wanted. But no, this isn't right. She was among what her parents would call the "masses" now, she should do as the Romans do. sdgjshkjjd
When Rebecca asked her for any requests, Fredegund was speechless. Oh no. She was being put on the spot. What should she say--
"Let It Go?"
Ah yes, something family friendly. Even SHE knew what Disney was. No need to consult the helix for this one.
Rebecca's face freezes at the mention of Crunk. She has no way to safely admit she barely knew the song, if at all. But then the girl saves the day with a Disney song, which she completely obliges in. The lyrics are almost liberating as she sings out, even throwing in some dramatic gestures as the song reaches its climax, arm outstretched, falling to the side as she shrugs and declares the cold never bothered her anyway with relish.
She would also never admit to having seen the movie, but that was a different topic.
When finished, she hands the mic off and heads to where she saw the other two, not taking no for an answer. It takes a bit to work around the crowd rather than through it, but she'll get there.
Oh, eventually dear Freddy understood what crunk meant, after a few seconds. Oh language. Oh slang.
"It's... Different, and I enjoy it very much! I want to see more of it!"
When Eric did his jazz hands, she joins in with a big smile! Such a fun gesture! Magic is great!
As for Let It Go, Fredegund knew the song by heart and sung along! She really liked Rebecca's performance and claps once more. When she makes it to the two, she would bob another short curtsy.
"I'm Fredegund. Pleased to meet you. I enjoyed your performance on stage."
Rebecca's a bit breathless when she joins them, cheeks flushed in embarrassment and delight. She was still having a hard time she'd just done that, and for multiple songs!
"Thanks," she breathes, managing to half hit his high five before turning to Fred.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Rebecca." She nods and smiles. "You were doing pretty good out there, you know."
