"I think you do." She takes a step forward, but no more. "You're not acting like yourself." Not that she was claiming to be an expert on the subject. "You're avoiding me as much as you can. Frankly, I'm surprised you haven't just told me to leave yet.
"You act like my breathing is somehow offensive, but you can't bring yourself to my level to tell me. So fine. If I've done something, say it already."
"Ignorant," she corrects automatically. This time, she stretches her arms forward, fingers lacing as though to push against an invisible barrier, as well.
"Then again, maybe you're right. Goodness knows, people don't make assumptions based on their own expereinces and knowledge. Not like you haven't done it to me."
"Not really." She shakes her head. "You told me it was complicated and you didn't have all of the answer. But you had to have had some observation to begin to form that question and assumption. You haven't asked about anyone else I may or may not know."
They could both agree on the first part, though Rebecca doesn't say as much. She sighs and realizes she's starting to shift side to side continually, nervous little twitches that she's stopped paying attention to.
"I see." She opts to find a new spot to stand in the room, instead, turning to look back at Silas. "Is that her assumption, or yours?"
She waits a moment, processing how he's gone from cold and distant to falling to anger pretty swiftly. Her arms cross again, but she's not restless anymore, if only for a moment.
"Whatever one has you ready to burn a hole in my head when you're the one who mentioned she was talking about something she apparently knows nothing about."
She holds his gaze when he looks her way, refusing to give in despite how the situation has gone from awkward silence to something a touch more personal.
"I see." She sighs and shakes her head. "Honestly, Silas? I don't care. Some people are cruel by nature. She's not exactly the first I've met." She looks back to his materials, thinking and trying to ignore the turn the conversation has taken. However much she liked him, it wasn't enough to make a bigger fool of herself than she already had. She'll hold onto her dignity while she can.
"I'm sure I'll get over it." And express those pesky feelings when she's alone. She unfolds her arm and takes a step closer.
"So. Your experiment is ruined. Your sister has interfered. I'm still here, for whatever reason, and you still act like you're doing your best to avoid me." She shrugs.
"Whatever you were working on, I guess it's not nothing, after all."
"What I'm doing here has nothing to do with you. In fact nothing I do from this point on does."
He's sounding ever more angry!
"If I had finished, you likely wouldn't have been able to get over it. It would have truly been interesting to see just how crushed you'd be if the game had continued as intended."
