A moment of silence passed before Piper opened her eyes, once more a muddy grey color, and slowly cocked a brow. "....that's it?" She murmured, and her lips turned up into a smirk. Relief washed over her, in a way, making her see the humor in the situation.
Someone feels her pain! Rebecca nods and slips the cards in different places within the deck.
"They tend to be, yes." Her lips twist in what could ether be a dry smile or a small scowl, but the expression soon vanishes. "Kind of a cheap shot at the end, but there you have it."
She shrugs, chuckling to herself. Of course they wouldn't give her any definitive. "Yeah, well..." Her voice sort of trails off as she leans back, letting Rebecca reshuffle her deck of cards.
"Are they at least less sarcastic with you?" She said, humor in her tone, as she turned her eyes up to watch the clouds.
"Oh no, I don't get that lucky." She slides the deck back into their designated satchel an shakes her head. "They've been giving me the same three cards lately. It's kind of annoying when you want to focus on something else and you still get snarky reminders thrown in your face.
"So what's your name?" If Piper and Silas had introduced themselves while she'd been around, she didn't remember. She'd been trying too hard to not pay attention. "I can't say I've seen you around until recently."
She nodded, not bothering to try and respond to that. Whatever it was, it probably had to do with Silas, and she didn't want to pry. Not when things were actually going well.
"Piper," she said. "I'm pretty new around here. Only a few days here. Four days in the States, three at Paradigm." She shrugged, assuming the girl would offer her name.
Rebecca is happy Piper doesn't pry, nodding at the introduction.
"I'm Rebecca. Nice to meet you." She pulls the drawstring shut with a nod. "Well, don't worry about it too much. Basically it's things you already know about yourself with something like this. I don't actually get anything from you, personally. Besides," a small smile. "You're already at Paradigm. If that's not an opportunity, I don't know what is.
"So did you come to the U.S. just for this place?"
Their talk had become small talk, but that was okay. Rebecca was at least relaxing with her, and if it took talking about herself to make the girl comfortable, so be it.
"Basically. Series of coincidences too in-your-face to ignore, you know?" She shrugged with a smile. "So, off to America I am. Better than Queensland."
"I like Chicago, so far," she said, thoughtfully, and began to lightly circle her fingers around the wood of the picnic table. "I've only been out a few times, but I enjoy it. The Chinese food is good here."
"It's nod bad," Rebecca agrees, looking up towards the sky. "The towns in the area aren't bad, either. Kind of a small town feel to most of them, though." A shrug. "They say all Illinois has is Chicago and corn."
"I guess the closest we have is 'go bush.' It means to get out of the city for a while." She shrugged, grinning slightly as she thought about some of her escapades. "Mostly, though, we hear sayings about other places. It's kind of the same as food. There's Chinese food, American food, Italian food, but there's no real Australian food."
She chuckled. "We just sort of take things from everywhere else. 'Cept animals. We don't get many animals that aren't Australian animals."
She nods, listening politely, a hint of amusement at the animal comment.
"That does sound similar, though I think you guys lucked out on your possums. The ones here are nasty little buggers." She reaches for her card satchel.
"Well, Piper, it was nice to meet you, but I have an appointment to get to. See you around?"
