"I'm gonna blame this on having PTSD from my trainer experience, and I'll say I thought the cotton balls you were firing were really giant orbs of destruction."
"I've had to use something similar plenty of times. You'd be surprised how often you can get in trouble for turning your teacher's stapler into a pistol that fires office supplies."
"You say that like it's a bad thing! All work and no play makes Charlie a dull lady. You've gotta have something in here we can turn into a completely impractical weapon."
He doesn't even mind. This is the first legitimate social experience he's had in years.
Evidently much too excited, Valo goes up to fiddle around with some of the supplies. In fact, everything there is, more or less, perfect for building just that. Not even two minutes of fiddling, and he's got a small catapult ready to pelt microscopic ne'er-do-wells with.
"See, this is like, the only good use for any of these supplies."
"You're good at this. Somehow I feel like you're playing me. For shame, Doctor," he teases with a grin. "Let's up the challenge, then!"
He sets up a small trampoline for their projectiles to rebound from, and lowers the hoop to a reasonable angle to compensate for the loss of force the rebound would create.
He watches as she misses her shot and makes a groan in faux disappointment, then immediately readies what he assumes will be the last one they make for the game.
"So, that prize, then?" he asks, shooting without looking.
And he misses.
He's completely oblivious to the fact that he missed.
She notices Valo perking up at the idea of homecoming and Charlie couldn't help but get super excited. There was so much to prepare! She's totally going to make so much food he'll have go take home boxes.
"Yes! Okay. Tomorrow night, six o'clock. I do have to warn you that I have five little kids."
Charlie scribbles down her address and passes the sticky note to Valo.
