"To know why you asked if I'd ever kissed anyone before." Oh, such a cop out, but it's a lot better than the automatic answer of 'it doesn't matter.' If he was going to stay, he was going to stay.
"You'd be the first," she echoes faintly, blinking as she sits up a little straighter. The tip of her tongue darts out to wet her lips, but her throat still feels dry. Admittedly, he had said he found her attractive the other night in the gym, but what did that even mean? It had to have just been an act, a way to manipulate her.
He gives an "as you wish" shrug and nod before stepping past her as if to step out, but he doesn't.
He pauses at her side, pivoting on the balls of feet to face her where he chose her chin and plants his lips on hers, holding neither for longer than two seconds before dropping both contacts.
Silas looks her in the eyes another long moment before starting to walk toward the door.
She's still on edge when he turns to go, but the kiss happens so quickly that he's pulling away even as she retaliates.
He had to be joking. Her gloved hands thump lightly against his chest as he stares at her, mind racing to process what just happened because really, what the heck. Had he or had he not heard her say "both"?
"Silas." He's leaving, and she has a million things to say, many of which are displeased. But the words that come out surprise her, or maybe it was a form of test she couldn't consciously think of on her own.
"If you hear...if they mention him in the debriefing, will you let me know?"
Just a few responses that flashed through Silas mind but none of the ones that came out. Instead he glances over his shoulder with a nod on his way out.
She didn't expect him to say it any more than she had the rest of the night's events. Each negative thought he'd had, she'd thought of and asked anyway. Maybe she would hear first if something bad happened, but maybe not. As awkward as the family situation was, as much as there were times she hated her father, he was still family.
He said yes. There was no gain in it for him, yet he'd agreed anyway. Why?
She scrubbed her lips with her fingers, looking over at the Gita with a small frown before leaving the book where it was.
What had even happened tonight?
Shaking her head, Rebecca left the library in its current state, trying not to think about the date she'd have with Mike later on. She wanted to make it back to the pod while still somewhat coherent.
