Mike had taken the full brunt of the explosion for him and Silas. His weakened shield unable to hold off against the force of the chain reaction. He had suffered severe internal bleeding from the blast. His whole back was severely burned and cut from the hunks of metal that had been embedded in his skin.
He was wrapped,up and bandaged, life signs were stable but he still hadn't woken up since the incident the other day.
Rebecca is sitting in a chair by the bed. She's been alternating between Silas and Mike's rooms since the incident when she can, and the stress is beginning to wear her down.
Currently, she's just curled up in the chair, partially facing Mike, but also the doorway in case anyone else comes.
Eventually after hours of nothing but the sound of dripping IVs and a heart rate monitor beeping at a steady but slow beat. His heart starts to elevate.
Rebecca shifts in her seat, unfolding herself so she's sitting upright as she turns to look at Mike. Her gaze darts to the heart monitor, then back to her friend, worry and hope mixing like cheep booze.
"Mike?" She swallows with a suddenly dry throat, wondering if she should alert the medical staff or not.
Her gaze goes to the door, but the shout for the medical staff dies in her throat as she looks back to Mike again. He looks a mess after being blown up, and she's been gnawing on guilt for a while now.
Who knew hope could come in the form of a finger twitch?
"Mike, can you hear me?" God she hopes so. She reaches out for the blanket, then hesitates. He'd taken the brunt of the explosion, and had the burns to prove it. Her hand drops back into her lap.
This time, it's not because of her power that she's afraid of touching someone.
"Welcome to the waking world." There's a waver to her voice as he shuts his eyes again, fingers entwined as her friend finally rejoins the land of the living.
His whole body was pain. From the needle in his arm to the burning on his back still. His chest and lungs hurt. His heart hurt. It felt like his insides were all mashed up inside. But there was a familiar voice. Pleasant and unpleasant at the same time. He didn't really know what to say to her.
Rebecca looks up at the stranger she's never met before, but Mike's question cuts off her initial answer.
"Waking up." There's relief in her voice as she turns her attention back to Mike, nodding with a small frown. There's a lot of complicated stuff in that single question.
"Yeah, he is." She doesn't sound all that thrilled about it, though it's probably the fact that the first thing he's talking about is Silas in general.
There better not be a round two from either of them.
Her lips twitch in a tired smile at the relief in his voice as she nods, rubbing her face with her hands. Her eyes are still puffy, but she's not sure if it's the lack of sleep, emotional overflow, or both.
"Days." Her voice is strained as she looks around for a calendar anywhere. "A really, really long time."
She hesitates a moment, glancing at the stranger in the room with them before looking back at Mike, who didn't seem to have a problem with the other person. She was going to have to go ff of that, then. Which also meant curtailing part of the conversation for now.
"How o you feel?" Aside from having a bomb explode and take you out.
His everything hurt. With some effort he'd turn his head to face Rhett.
"It wasn't planned. He attacked me in the courtyard with some weapons when I refused to fight him there. When he used his gun I decided I was done and challenged him in the tutorial."
Still silent, though her fingers flex within the fabric of her gloves like she's trying to chase out a pins and needles sensation.
She knew that part, of course. She'd read his file. Silas had claimed his skill as having to do with tech, another twisted truth about the gadgets he'd made and she....she...
She hadn't stopped him. From doing stuff like this to the people who were on the same side.
