"The purpose for living in a coed environment? I wouldn't say there's a specific one. I don't think it would cause as many issues as you seem to, though."
Jack shrugs, leaning back.
"Regardless of living situations, agents are going to have romantic interests. It's just something that happens."
"Certainly," she says, her frustration starting to lessen somewhat as the heat of the moment begins to wear down. Also, the Director seems like a reasonable enough fellow.
"But sir, all due respect, even if that is true, why give it such an easy avenue?"
"Or they're more likely to compromise the mission due to personal feelings," she counters.
"Putting emotions on the battlefield is just a good way to get yourself and your men killed," she concludes, sparing a worried glance in Taner's direction.
That part he takes exception to! Now he's a little peeved but he doesn't say anything immediately since he doesn't want to yell at her in front of the Director. Needless to say, she does get a very pissed off return stare from him when she looks back.
Zora resists the urge to roll her eyes. Her mom didn't really espouse this place, did she? Either way, she's not going to argue philosophy with the Director of the Academy.
"You're right, that didn't work out so well, from what I've heard." She sighs. "Sorry, sir, I overreacted."
She gives a half-glance over her shoulder at Taner, and notes his expression for a moment. It causes her to falter, but only for a bit.
"Emotions have their place in battle, certainly. Fraternity, solidarity, even enmity. Your fellow soldiers are your brothers and sisters, and the willingness to lay down one's life for your brothers and sisters is what makes a fighting force strong. Romance just causes soldiers to play favorites."
A short pause as she collects her thoughts. "That's all a bit farther out from my point, but it's where it leads. All I'm saying is that, you're teaching a bunch of teenagers here... I just don't agree that 'they're going to do it anyway' is ever a good reason to allow something to happen."
She bites her lip and looks down. "Also, um, it's... nice to meet you, Sir."
Taner clenches his fists tightly. Why, OH WHY, does she have to be like this?! One second he wants to yell her head off and the next he feels guilty for being mad! He swears she knows she's doing it to manipulate him, swears! That said, this is going to hurt because he hit the roommate jackpot it terms of personality.
"Is there a way we could get her added to my pod?"
"I think there'll be favorites regardless of whether you live with someone or not. That's how life is, you'll always like someone more than someone else. I'd imagine you would value your brother over another agent you've barely met."
Jack shrugs.
"But I'll take it under advisement. It's nice to meet you too."
He says with something of a wry smile, before turning his head to look at Taner.
"...I don't see why not. Is that something you would want?"
"It's okay, Taner, you can be your own little birdie." She almost suppresses the giggle. Almost.
"Thank you for the discussion, sir, it was very much appreciated. Sorry to come storming into your office this early in the morning."
She stiffens, salutes, and turns to leave, catching Taner's eye. "And you better not fuck up, big brother, or I'll be watchin'." She grins mischievously and begins to head out the door.
