Aaron wasn't a big fan of the Vault. The massive complex was a bit creepy, to him, knowing he was surrounded by evil metahumans and tech specifically designed to bring them down, and even aside from that he couldn't help remembering he was walking around in the repurposed skeleton of the original Academy. From before everything first started to go bad. Dad was full of bitter stories about this place, and for his own part Aaron always wondered why Paradigm West hadn't taken the place back over when it was established.
This had been how things were all of Aaron's life, but the history still weighed down on him as he took the portal trip over. But that wasn't why he was here. No, there was something he had to do, someone he had to speak to. Someone he thought he could reach.
How long had he been lurking in the shadows outside Erika's cell? Too long, maybe. Too short, also maybe. He had to think about what he would say, how he'd say it, why. If he should just turn back around and go home. This probably wasn't a good idea, but they didn't have many other options other than waiting for her gang to show up again. They couldn't afford to keep being surprised.
"Good morning, Erika." Finally, he nerved himself up enough to say something, stepping out into the light.
"I don't plan to take up much of your time. I only have one question, it's a yes or no answer: Pearson Elementary, in Chicago. Did you know what your friends Ronnie and Victor were planning there?"
Aaron pulled out his phone and brought up a news video of the school incident to show her. The reporter recapped everything, and footage included news chopper feed of Aaron battling Victor and Bomb Lady in the ruined classroom, the children all safe, him being wheeled out afterwards on a stretcher. A body bag being wheeled out after him.
Miranda's.

"No. I just wanted you to see with your own eyes, and realise why I don't believe you'd let it happen if you knew about it. Those children wouldn't've stood a chance without Miranda and I there."
He put away his phone, giving Erika a minute to think on that.
"I know about Joseph, Erika. And the pain you've carried around since. You're striking out against a world that took so much from you, and I understand that - I'm so, so sorry that it ever happened. But there's good in you, and I don't believe you'd ever go this far. Not knowing what it's like yourself."

"I know what happened, who did it. That justice wasn't done."
People had actively tried to kill Aaron by now, a snap from a woman in a cell who can't do anything to him wouldn't do anything more than make him lose his smile.
"I don't know, for myself, the kind of pain that puts in somebody's heart. That I can only imagine."
Aaron shrugged. "You're a good person, deep down. Maybe the people here don't believe in you, but I do. This? What they were going to do to those kids? It's not who you are."
