Rebecca nods at the explanation and gives her an encouraging smile.
"Well, the good news is you're doing fine. I'm not running away screaming - and I wouldn't be even if I were allowed to." She makes a face before continuing.
"Silas is definitely an ass, but there's more to him than that. I just wish it was there for more people to see." She trails off, thinking of the rest of Piper's list as well as the fact that they might actually be having girl time.
"Mike is off the table," she adds in a soft voice. Might as well get that out in the open now before anyone else gets any other ideas. It did complicate the fact that Silas attacked him, let alone the fight other. That still unsettled her.
"Eric? Yeah, the one you're thinking of. But I don't know." She shook her head. "We're going out sometime once I'm out of here, but honestly? He's my best friend, and that's not something I've considered someone in a long time. Maybe there will be something, maybe not." She shrugs and tries to downplay the elaboration.
"Life is full of hypotheticals," she said and chuckled. "And boys are weird. Though, hey, a date sounds nice."
She smiled. She'd have to hear more about Eric at some point, but Rebecca seemed a bit down. She didn't seem to really want to talk about any of them... Not Mike, not Eric, and certainly not Silas.
Normally, that wouldn't matter, but... she had come to consider this girl a friend. She didn't have many of those.
Trying to lighten things up, she crossed her fingers and rested them on her stomach, looking over at her and trying her best to look serious (and failing - her poker face sucked).
"You know, if you ever get tired of all these boys and all their stuff, you and I could tell them to swatch off. We'll go down Mexico way, or something. Elope, and be the best looking lesbian couple in the country."
"I'm not the only cryptic one," she adds with a shake of her head -"And they really are." Whether they were driven crazy or not.
She looked over at Piper as the other girl's pose echoed her own, raising a brow before her expression melted from skepticism to amusement. It's even more difficult with the girl's attempt at a serious face, but it was reassuring to see her new friend try so hard for her, too.
"The plot twist no one suspects before we take the world by storm." Her laughter is quieter than before, but the comment has the desired effect.
Her laughter faded as she realized Piper had gone silent, watching as the heavy thoughts peeked through.
"You're welcome." She returns the smile with a small one of her own, glad to see the warmth return to her new friend's expression.
"Same to you." There were a handful she could laugh this freely with; had you asked her opinion on Piper when they first met, she would never have thought the green haired girl would be one. Yet despite the catty attitude and Silas being a brat to push her buttons, here they were.
"You okay?" Rebecca tilted her head a bit to the side, watching her carefully. Both seemed to be full of ups and downs lately.
"That tends to be what happens with friends." Of course, it's Eric's face that comes to mind as she says it, affection warming her voice, but it was also true. The ones who were there for you, the closest able to call you out on your own foolishness.
"I'm glad I could help. If you need to talk, you can." She doesn't push, but instead reaches out for the book of poems Piper had brought.
Rebecca nods and turns to page 143! It's a split-page with two poems on it, so she backs up to the previous poem and reads it out loud. It's A Dialogue of Self and Soul!
"He's one of my favorites," Rebecca closes the book, index finger marking her place. "Thanks for bringing it to me. Really." She glances at Piper again. "I'll give it back once I'm out of here, if you like. If you checked it out, you should have plenty of time to read it, yourself." She's assuming ti was checked out and not bought. She was sort of trying not to pay attention to that, one way or another.
She gave a shake of her hand, standing from the chair and stretching. "Keep it," she said with a smile. "A marker of our friendship."
She gave the girl a two-finger salute, not bothering to say how she had gotten the book, nor where, and moved out of the infirmary. "Get better, Rebecca."
"Thanks, Piper." She'd lost count of how many times she'd said it, but she still mean it. "See you later." She waves as the girl leaves, setting the book down with quiet sigh.
