He was barefoot, so wiped his feet on the mat as he came in. He would set her down gently before speaking in a rather....soft tone for him. "You....okay chaingang?" His pet name for her, what with the chains and all- that didn't mean to make it sound like she was a prisoner. Just....him trying to make her feel better. Her eyes were wide and more green than they were blue... which was not a good sign. Tears lined the edges of her eyes. They were still there, in her mind... The thoughts. The hatred. She could still feel it coursing through her, as if it were her own hatred... an emotion she had never really felt. The murderous rage made her feel sick to her stomach, and just beneath the skin of her back, the chain links felt like they were pulsing. When she closed her eyes, it was worse. A few minutes later, he would hear the shower start. She had gotten in, letting the hot water run over her and wash away the blood and the gore. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do, in that moment. In fact, she didn't know what she wanted to do at all. It was nearly an hour before she managed to get out, her head a bit clearer. If she closed her eyes, she could still see the mangled bodies, but she had started wondering about the man she had saved. Was he still alive? Would he be able to go home to his family? Did he have a wife, children? The thought of kids rushing up to greet their daddy, a survivor, helped more than the shower had. Dressed in an oversized shirt and a pair of shorts, she sort of stumbled out of the bathroom, looking around the main room to see if BK had waited for her the entire hour. She seemed a little bit more in control of herself, but Evie was still shaken up. Rather obviously. She came to sit beside him on the couch, walking slowly, carefully. While she sat next to him, she didn't initiate touch, or even really look at him. Instead, she stared at her hands, clasped in her lap. "Are all missions like that?" she finally asked, voice soft. If she felt uncomfortable, or like she didn't want anyone to push it on her he didn't want to be the one to put her there. He picked at his fingernail on his right hand. "I...suspect so." He continued to dig. "My dad used to show me things. Make me watch while he did horrible stuff to good people. I was maybe nine when it started. Seeing that today didn't even affect me. She had seen bits of his past, she knew what kind of man his father was... but in that moment, she couldn't really picture anything aside from the people from that day, the fallen... the innocent, the people who had done nothing wrong. "Did I?" she asked, softly, and reached a hand up to gingerly touched her nose. It was still sore, but at least it wasn't broken. "People died and I... couldn't stop any of them..." She seemed to be forgetting the man she had literally pulled off, into the air. She had held him there, suspended, and that man he was trying to kill had probably lived. She sighed softly... "You know...in times of trouble, when the shit hits the fan, it's then that we find out who we really are. You can't hide behind a mask anymore because if you try, you'll end up killed. When that man punched you, you could have easily just lay there. When the other one was going to kill that man you could have let him die. Instead, you fought back, and saved someones life. Even I didn't stop all those deaths and I wasn't frozen." He would reach out to put a hand on her shoulder. "If you feel, in some way that you need to do better than do it. After something like this you have two choices- to roll over and let it rule you or to say 'fuck it' and take control. You're stronger than you think, girl. Don't let what happened today make you think otherwise. You can't be in fifty places at once." Ken was being...awful kind. But what could he say? He had a thing for helping the beautiful ladies who thought they might be damaged. At least, that's what he told himself. He was, in that moment, so much stronger than she could ever hope to be... and she took great comfort in that fact. She closed her eyes for just a moment, before they flew open, not wanting to see what was waiting for her. "I touched his soul," she said softly. She gave a shake of her head before turning, ducking it into his shoulder. "I saw it. I saw his memories, I felt his emotions. He was so... hurt." She shuddered. It made her feel almost dirty to think about, but she had. She had successfully managed to touch his soul, to become, for a moment... a part of him. As a Paradigm agent, she had always known that evil was out there... but it hadn't ever been relevant to her. It wasn't real. Gently, she stroked her fingers across his hand, almost unconsciously. He would lean back and face forward, trying not to focus too much on it. It was probably just...her being absent minded. No way someone like her...and he could... "I've never really thought about it. I'm not....as kind hearted as you might think." The next sentence came out a little softer. "I tried to kill that clone today. Break his neck." He was saying that just as he wasn't afraid of death, he wasn't scared to cause it. To kill. Maybe part of his dad still lived on in him after all... He spoke softly and...leaned in a little....before he realized what was going down and blinked. He cleared his throat and leaned back, turning away to look at the bathroom. "Uh...I should probably clean up too. I still....stink of that place." He was an expert at avoiding this shit. So when he turned away, she let him. He hadn't made a move to get off the couch, nor to take his hand away, so her fingers continued their gentle motion back and forth. "Okay," she said. She wanted something to distract herself with. The media had decided it was relevant to show the rally on every channel, and it made her shiver. She quickly changed the channel. It took her a little while to find a movie, something that seemed harmless. She curled up, then, pulling her legs against herself and sitting in a restless little ball.
