"I... don't know," she admitted at last. "We were... intimate. I wasnt... allowed many other people..."
She took a deep, steadying breath, and looked up to meet Aaron's eyes. He would see, then. He would see the horror, well beyond fear. He would see the ache of abandonment, the hatred of the ache. He would see how she couldn't cry... If she cried, it would only get worse.
"He took me when I didn't believe in anything else. I was easy. It didn't take long. He gave me... something. When I had nothing, he gave me something. He built me up so he could destroy me."
Piper would see surprise, sympathy, understanding, a bit of horror on Aaron's own part... then he goes pale, and his expression turns flat, his eyes cold. His hand on the desk clenches into a fist, so tightly his knuckles start to go white.
"Okay, I understand," he says, trying for warmth but his tone telegraphing how absolutely livid this has him. It's not her fault, not at all, but despite his attempt at composure, it's probably pretty obvious to both her and Rhett what he thinks of that story. "Say someone's not taken in, he has to engage them in combat. Have you ever seen how he fights, how he attacks people?"
« Last Edit: Nov 29, 2015 21:27:16 GMT -6 by Aaron Silverman - Reason: She never actually said anything to him about ambushes. »
It's the truth! Caught between the desire to go to her and to respect that she wants some space, he shuffles a little closer but doesn't really approach, per se.
Keep asking things, don't let her dwell too much. That'll be better for her.
"After, um, Purity, was it just you two? Did you ever see him with anyone else? Soldiers, other followers? Anyone he'd be likely to bring along to that address you have?"
"There were others," she said with undeniable disgust. She looked like she wanted to spit, remembering them. "Acolytes. Followers. Fools to be used and discarded... Replaceable."
Then, her voice softened a bit more. "But this one was always special. He loved this one... told her she would be The One. She just had to prove it."
She seemed to have regressed into her memories, to have lost herself in what she couldn't unsee. She almost seemed dreamlike, and if it weren't for the shaking and that look in her eye, she may have even seemed... happy.
Sharper, a bit louder, deeper. Not upset with her, just raising his voice to grab her attention, snap her out of it.
"So when he goes to this address, for whatever reason he wants you there, is he likely to go alone? He seems too smart not to suspect something tricky might happen."
She giggled, a foreign and... well, disturbing giggle coming from the green haired beauty. She tilted her head to one side, the look on her face seeming to contort.
A sharp, strong male voice? Well then.
"A God uses His followers. Their worship gives Him strength. They are replaceable... They will die so the Lord may continue His work."
That... wasn't good. The look in her eyes, the way her voice changed, it all sent his skin crawling. Whatever got into her, it almost seemed like him trying to get her attention made it worse.
Something about that expression made him not want to be sitting here. Come on, Aaron, think...
Well, she was working with Mat, wasn't she? Maybe he knows something. Slowly, he gets to his feet and pulls out his phone, not backing away but giving her a little space.
"I need to make a quick call, only be a minute." Then, turning a little away from Piper, he dials Mat's extension!
