"Hey hon, meant to call yesterday but you know how it was."
He pauses on the other end, as if to gather his thoughts. His voice doesn't sound like it did yesterday, more... tired, ashamed.
"I wanted to tell you I'm sorry for everything yesterday. That thing that got me? Even after it got shot off, it screwed up my brain, made me act like a damn crazy person. Is your arm okay?"
"Slept it off, took a shower, saw Eric when he woke up. I'm... I think I'll be fine, those thoughts that got put in my head haven't come back up. Long as you're okay I can handle it."
And as long as she doesn't hate him for acting so weird.
"Would you be okay to do something? I can take you somewhere nice, we can talk about stuff. I'd like to make things right anyway, you know that's not me, how I was acting."
"Aaron, calm down." Her tone almost sounded... amused. "You don't have to take me anywhere nice. We can talk. But you don't have to spend any money on me."
"I won't, but it's obvious there's a problem there. He and I, we need to straighten it out like adults, before something bad happens. I've dealt with scarier people than him, love."
Ignore that, legally, Aaron won't be considered an adult in Illinois until February.

He doesn't want to tell her his actual plan. Namely, to give Angel the fight he wants. "I still have no idea what the hell that was all about, when he jumped me like that, so I'm sure as hell not visiting him until I know he won't go for my throat. But I'm gonna email him and offer him a chance to straighten all this out, between us."
"I'm trying to figure that out as I go. I want to get this figured out, without anyone getting hurt, but I guess how it goes is up to him, now isn't it? He's the one ambushing people and throwing around death threats."
Met with Angel. It went okay; nobody went to the infirmary, and he won't be going after me, said he doesn't want pointless fights. Where are you? I'd still rather talk in person.
She can't abruptly hang up on him in person, for one. He's actually a little miffed about that one, but it might or might not show up in his typing style.
Aaron would've been curious about how long it took, if he hadn't been busy. He'd had to shower, do schoolwork, change out of those training clothes, visit people, and a bunch of stuff!
Finally, there's the crunch of feet on grass approaching behind her, and if she turns she'll see Aaron, giving her one of his usual smiles. He's wearing the watch and blazer she gave him.
"Hey, you. Feeling better?"
There's a flicker of displeasure in his eyes, just a small mark of how the shortness and the hangup had bugged him. But then it's gone, forgiven. She knows he can't stay mad at her.

She doesn't look up from whatever book she seems to be absorbed into, her legs pulled up. As usual, she's tucked into her little nest between the roots of the tree, looking small buried inside nature. When she hears the crunch of feet, she raises a single hand in greeting.
"Hey," she greets, but her voice sounds flat as her eyes sweep across the page. "I am feeling fine. I don't know why you seemed so freaked out. It's just a burn."
She seems oblivious to the fact that he could be talking about her "episode." After all, she did everything she could to act as if Puppet didn't exist anymore.
