So that's probably a no for his evil magic. The pace slows as they reach the edge of the woods. Just past them on the mountain rests an old military fort. However, only parts of it are wood, whereas others are sheets of metal. It looks like its half from now, half from the future with blinking lights and automatic checkpoints.
