As Aaron paused to look curious at the attention she was paying to his wrist, she would hear a snort come from his watch, and a low voice with a harsh Australian accent.
"No he won't. Fucking idiot he is."
For his part, Aaron just stood there, unsure if it'd be rude to ask if something was up.
She'd just explained how her power worked a minute ago, so it was less him not understanding, more him being slightly taken aback and unsure how to respond. Did he want to know?
Meanwhile, his watch started laughing uproariously at him, and then under its "breath" called him something foul enough it was not fit for transcribing here!
"Go ahead, I guess? Or I can plug my ears with my power if you want."
Yeah, he wasn't sure he actually wanted to know what his watch - oh, and how happy he'd been when he'd seen the thing for the first time - was saying. Not from how she reacted to it.
"I don't know how to make it... not talk? What did it say? Do I want to know? Are you all right?"
Since he'd noticed her recoil from whatever was said.
"HA! Stupid wanker wants to know what I said! Well, let him have it then, girl! What, afraid of a little honesty?"
...Even for having been part of Paradigm his entire life, this was pretty weird for Aaron to think about. He stood there, blinking and looking regretful.
"I'm fine. I just wouldn't want you to have an awkward relationship with your watch if I told you what I said."
From Fred's experience, usually she doesn't hear objects unless they somehow want to be heard or are broadcasting themselves really loud. This watch clearly had a lot to say.
"YEAH, THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID. ARE YOU FUCKING DEAF?"
Aaron ran a hand through his hair, and looked like he was mulling that over. Possibly fighting down an involuntary chuckle.
"I'm sorry. That's just not a sentence I ever thought I would hear. Um, up to you if you talk to it I guess? I don't know how to shut it up."
He looked to his watch, considering, before trying: "Uh... watch your tone? It's time you learnt some manners?"
"Go sit on a railroad spike," the watch retorted, after a moment of unimpressed, oh-god-why-did-I-have-to-hear-that silence it seemed to break mostly to spite him.

She holds a hand over her mouth to hide a small giggle at the puns.
"It's okay if it talks, since you can't hear it. By awkward, I mean... It's hard to keep around someone who doesn't like you, so imagine if your belongings didn't."
"Me neither. If you're talking about my watch, I can't get rid of it, it or the blazer. They're... they're too important."
He didn't seem amused any more, not in the slightest. The watch, however, was briefly silent. His blazer had not ventured any opinions throughout the conversation, nor given any indication to Fred that it intended to.
Must be a family member. She wonders if the watch was imported from Australia or a souvenir, based on its accent. The little things you can find out about objects.
Incorrect, but Fred didn't press for more detail, so Aaron didn't offer it. Instead he just gave her a nod.
"Yeah. Sorry, just there isn't much more of a story to tell. Throwing them away would be like throwing her away, like saying she doesn't mean anything to me."
"Oh gag me with a spoon," the watch mutters. "If I had sharp bits I'd see if this kid actually has blue blood."
"Some say too much. But I've had a bit of a head start on all that."
Not that it ever seemed to help. Though, contrary to popular belief, he had a bunch of things he did for fun when he wasn't training! He just didn't feel the need to list them all whenever prompted. And hadn't felt like doing any of those things in quite some time. That was probably bad, but fuck it.
His parents had gotten theirs from the original serum, after all. It was funny in a way, how powers almost weren't even remarkable any more and it had only been what, twenty years since they started being a thing? He was pretty sure he knew a guy in Chicago who had a sentient ability for a coworker.
If there were no powers, there wouldn't be an Empire. But there'd be no Paradigm, either, and they'd done a lot of good for people. There'd literally never been anything he'd wanted to do with his life more than be part of all this.
Still, every now and then he'd wondered what it would've been like to be born into a world without superpowers. Dad once told him he would've joined the FBI if MAPP hadn't been a thing.
