"Haven't thought much about it. This is pretty much the only thing I've ever wanted to do."
He shrugged, hands in pockets. The watch said something, but perhaps he suspected it would, because while in the pocket it was muffled. Prima ballerina, huh? Interesting call.
"Maybe I'd join the FBI, or become a philanthropist or something. You know, do something a bit similar to this, with the whole helping people thing. Might use my art for side income."
"Mom would've become a professional artist if Paradigm hadn't recruited her. She kept doing it on the side, it helped her develop her powers and she just liked it."
No comment on the cultured life thing. It had been cultured, but he doesn't like to boast. There was a reason his watch had mentioned "blue blood" to her after all.
He'd flashed money a bit for Sarah, but only as a show of love. Never for the sake of calling attention to the Silverman fortune.
"What about you? Why a prima ballerina, if I can ask?"
...Well, no. There were plenty of things more important than one's own happiness, in the world. Innocent lives. Stopping those who would do evil to the helpless. The happiness of those one loves. Helping people. If his power could heal the sick or feed the hungry or give money to the poor, he'd use it to do that in a second.
Well, he had "give money to the poor" covered, but still.
"From what I've heard of it, ballet's super demanding. I've got a lot of respect for people who can do it."
He'd heard horrible things about what ballet did to people's feet. Horrible things.
"Oh, I've danced onstage a few times. Dancing with others is a different story. I haven't found another ballet dancer at Paradigm yet. I might as well settle with dancing with anyone willing to dance at all, ballet or not."
"They're more than strong enough for that, and I've got complete control over them. Watch this."
With a snap of his fingers, his own shadow lunged upwards and easily hoisted him into the air! Then it set him back down, before meekly going flat again.
"Yeah. Being a superhero sounds difficult. No one has written what happens between the moments of action. At least, from what I know about superheroes."
She never got to read any comics and movies seemed so artificial compared to the real things showing up on the news every so often.
Superhuman powers suddenly becoming a very real, and very dangerous, thing kind of killed most of the comic industry way way back. When every week or so there was an actual superhero battle going on outside, a lot of people found that stuff too close to home. It was a surprise to some that back in the day, Aaron was actually quite the DC buff. Marvel was nice stuff too.
"Nothing wrong with feeling regular, either; we need that. It can be easy to forget that, despite our power, we're still human, with everything that entails."
And forgetting their own humanity could lead to terrible things.
