She nodded thoughtfully, and then one chain wiggled out from her back. She rested it in her hands and stared down at it. Knowing the pain that would come from it, she looked up at Mathew with her eyes darkening, hardening.
"Both. I don't think you'll be able to do it with your flesh hand, but maybe your stone. I'm not going to sink it into you, but I am going to see if I can keep you from being able to."
Evie focused solely on keeping the chain together and keeping her eyes open.
Clenching her fists, they rose to punch at Mathew, but she managed to stop herself. Having not expected the sudden move, it was difficult to keep herself in check and not attack back.
She focused hard on keeping it, and her body shook for a moment. The time that stretched between them seemed significantly longer to her than it actually was before, finally, it broke. She made a noise of agony and dropped to one knee, hands raising to clutch her chest.
She hesitated for a moment before she heard that mysterious voice, remembering what it had said to her. On the ground as she was, she only had one option. She let her training kick in and she shifted, balancing on a hand, and swiped out with her foot.
He wasn't expecting that given the context of the training request. And with his muscles as weak and exhausted as they were she'd have no problem kicking his feet out from under him!
The second she managed to get his feet out from under him, she flinched. Backing up a few paces, her eyes widened, her fists clenching.
"I'm so sorry!" she said quietly, staring at him and wondering if he was going to fight against her. "I didn't mean to..."
She stopped. Excuses were futile. Either he was going to accept her apology and let her recover from the pain or he was going to jump at her and they'd be back to scuffling.
Fear, real fear, crossed her face. She had half a mind to turn and run, tuck tail. She wasn't sure if she could beat him again. They were both weak and tired.
Taking a deep breath, she prepared herself for a fight if one was going to come.
"When I first started my training, we were always taught to move through the pain. I really... tried to focus on that."
She swallowed, moving to stand up again, slowly and carefully.
She knew she wouldn't be able to handle him breaking her chains again. She was looking exhausted. She really just wanted to get something to eat and then crawl into bed for a few days.
Luckily, he wasn't offended, and he wasn't attacking her. Both good things. She took a deep, steadying breath.
"I'll work on my focus. Eventually, I should be able to keep you from being able to break them."
When she left he'd let out a breath and slump back against the metal which bent and morphed into a chair that he could sit down in. He needed a moment after all of that.
