Carefully, Evie stepped towards Jack, staring at him for a moment. Her heart was still thudding in her chest and she felt concern down to the pit of her stomach.
When he fired again, she jumped and audibly squeaked.
Nate amost jumped out infront of Lars, stumbling to his knees as his left leg gave out. Just as Jack raised his hand "What the hell are you doing? You're supposed to be the good guys! Not some bully's like them!" He waved frantically in front of Lars. Brown eyes staring at Jack, searching for the hero in him.
Nate stayed right where he was still trying to stay between Jack and Lars. "You aren't a murderer, yeah? You're an Arthur, not a bad guy." Nate's voice was calming down as he watched Jack. "I'm just a Merlin, but Merlin doesn't help the bad guys. Yeah?" He asked Jack carefully. Trying to figure the director out.
"Okay, I get where you're going, but m-maybe-" Josh was taking heed of Evie's warning. Something about the beeping of those gadgets was really setting her off, and his mind was jumping to conclusions. Explosions? Were they really rigged with bombs? Who were these guys, anyhow?
"Maybe come back over here and stay out of the director's way? H-He must know what he's doing!"
Josh dropped the shield, swallowed the lump in his throat, and then raised another one that was akin to a 'half dome' in front of himself and Evie just in case explosions decided they were going to go off. If Nate decided he wanted to back off and get behind cover, well... that's why it was a HALF dome.
Nate stares stubbornly up at the electricity crackling in Jack's hand. "I talked to you man... You helped me, you're not going to use that on me... You don't want to be him do you?" He asked as Jack drags him away.
Jack is right to be amazed, because something that shouldn't be happening is, and things that should be aren't. Stranger things have happened to him, but there is definitely something weird with this picture.
The beeping intensifies, and eventually reaches a loud whine - but there's no explosion. Instead, blue doorways open up directly beneath the fallen group, one for each body, and they start dropping through!
Jack sighs, long and loud, before looking at Nate.
"You're lucky you didn't get killed. I realize you're new, but you should know well enough to not do exactly the opposite of what your boss is trying to do."
He lets go of Nate, turning to look at Evie and Josh.
Nate laid out in the grass looking up at Jack. "You're not judge jury and executioner, I'll do as you say, as long as it's right." He meant that, meant right in terms of morals, in terms of his heroes.
He looked toward Evie and the others crawling to his feet, limping hard. "We're the good guys." He grumbled.
Josh stuffed his hands in his pockets once more, the greenish wall separating himself and Evie from Nate and Jack fading. He nodded in response to the director's question. He was fine; hell, he was untouched. Looks like those dudes were gone, Nate was having a bit of a tiff, and Director Makalia was the man to call if your power went out and you had a generator nearby. Good to know.
"Evie?" Josh asked her, inclining his head just a little bit. "Why'd you say we needed to get out? Did you think we weren't gonna be safe?"

"Bullshit." He swore limping away from the director. Had he really just joined forces with a bunch of Mercenaries? "If you can kill people with that power, you should also be able to stop people from killing worth it." He growled leaving the area. He'd mumble about trusting people and started to look for a place to find some peace.
"He's a new agent," she whispered back to Josh, then took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
She looked up at Jack, offering him a weak smile.
"I'm sorry, Sir. I was trying to handle it. I didn't... know what to do."
Then, with another glance towards Josh, she spoke softly. "The beeping reminded me of a bomb that went off, and since they mentioned Kieran, it was at the forefront of my mind. Electronics shouldn't have been able to work after a blast like that, so I thought it might have been a pipe-bomb or something of the sort triggered by a surge. Sort of a... precaution against Ja-- Director Makaila, specifically."
A quick glance down, then back up to her boss.
"I'm sorry, Sir. I shouldn't have panicked like that."
Josh laughed, albeit nervously. Yep, a bomb. That's what he was worried about too.
"Well, if it was a bomb, I think I'd be able to tank it!" Josh said, though he wasn't quite so sure of himself as he wanted to let on. He then cleared his throat, adjusting his glasses with both hands. He kept them out of his pocket this time.
Jack doesn't comment further on Nate's actions. He'd already given his warning, and he wasn't in the habit of repeating himself.
Instead, he refocuses on the other two, smiling reassuringly.
"It's fine. There will be times you can't deal with what you have to fight because you aren't ready. That's what the staff and our Seniors are here for. All I ask is you do what you can, and call for help if you need it. There's no point in dying for nothing when you can help it."
He looks at Josh, shrugging a little.
"At this point, we've done what we can. I don't like it, but we have to assume that they haven't been dealt with completely."
Josh took a few steps to... well, some random direction. He figured he and Nate, and probably Evie too, were supposed to get lost now that this little issue had been dealt with. He stopped, though, looking the director up and down.
"Quick question, uh..." Josh searched for the right words, his eyes slipping down to where those guys once were. "Who... who was that guy with the shadows n' junk? To react the way you did, you had to think he was really, uh..."
