He gives her a smile, to show genuine appreciation for her efforts. He doesn't mean to be stubborn, even though he knows he comes off that way; he's just not someone who was raised to accept something might just be impossible, even if sometimes that ends up with him looking like he'll just smash his head into a problem over and over until something gives way. The answer has to be out there somewhere.
"I'm just trying to figure out what I can do, how I can do more good out there, be more effective. I don't want to go out there and not be able to protect anybody from those people."
"I'm sure there's tapes of my sessions in Tutorial, I spend a lot of time in there."
Too much time, some say. Some people are apparently under the impression he does nothing else with his spare time. Aaron looks at Gengar's shadow too, for a moment, before returning his attention to Agent Tiao.
"Or I can show you some of what I can do myself, if you like."
Gengar makes a face upon being noticed, and floats against the walls and connecting surfaces, still a shadow.
"I can review some tapes later when I have time, if the tutorial's standards are still as dangerously high as they should. As for sparring with me, I generally stay my hand out of concern for the well-being of others. Not a good simulation of what happens on the field."
She knows how dangerous she can be, and is often unsure how far she should take things. She knows she can kill, and has killed, but really, truly doesn't want to. You'd need to make her snap to want to kill you.
Aaron can relate to the awareness of danger and the reluctance to kill. His power isn't on her level, but it can still do terrible things to people - it has done terrible things to people, and he still thinks about it.
"Up to you, I was thinking more a demonstration than sparring with you, but your call."
If he didn't get completely overwhelmed, that might actually be kind of fun. He's in the mood for a good spar anyway.
"Just thought it might be worth offering, since seeing for yourself might give you more to work with."
Problem solving, huh? Unexpected, but there's more to being an agent than fighting, after all.
"Most of the tapes of my Tutorial sessions would be combat training," he admits, sheepishly. "I'd be glad to demonstrate for you though. However you'd like me to."
Aaron shifts the shadows around and tries to fling the book out of the bubble, towards himself! If it works, he'll snatch it out of the air with his hand, leaving Gengar phased into a bubble that has nothing in it.
Aaron simply moves his arm so the book is out of Gengar's reach! Then his own shadow reaches up and tries to gently wrap around Gengar, pick him up, and place him on the ground.
Aaron controls shadows and darkness, he's attacked people with their own shadows before and redirected shadows when sparring against other umbrakinetics. So he's curious enough to try something.
Namely, he tries to take control of Gengar's shadow while it's shooting towards him, and redirect it towards a shelf.
Aaron focusses on the resistance, putting more and more strength into the pressure but not enough to be harmful or anything. He's content to let Gengar wear itself out if need be.
Aaron makes the shadow reach upwards with a tendril, wrap around Gengar's ankle, and whip it away from him, though not with enough force to injure the Pokemon. If it works, Aaron raises his hands, which're hopefully empty if he hid the book successfully.
