"I know the Shadow Over Innsmouth story... Aside from that, brains melting so hard that bodily functions go haywire. Not fun stuff... And... A part of me thought it was an elder god-ish dragon meant to swim the depths of a primordial ocean."
Looking at you, Valentina. Wherever you are now, however integrated you may be.
"Injected, yeah... Well... I couldn't think properly, to put it one way. There was so much going on that there wasn't enough cognitive space for me to form rational thoughts."
The fear of Georgina being killed made something... Snap and rend her into two entities.
"Immediately after being injected, you can say that my brain melted, yeah. Just a haze of noise and senses going off. The Id doing whatever pleased it, moments of involuntary actions here and there."
As for after she "got her brain back", her powers have been more sensitive to her manipulation, though not quite as sensitive in perception as before.
"Nowadays, my power is something like a nuclear reactor I have to monitor to keep things stable."
The Super Ego keeping the Id in check.
"I don't think anyone could ever be the same after getting their powers."
"But that's where I think you're different. You didn't inherit these powers like most metahumans and you didn't learn magic like I did...you were infused with it."
He leans back in his oversized chair, taking a long slow breath.
"We think you were injected with the essence of an ancient one."
Well. If she can pull and reform the fabric of reality into an ink-like goo, this shouldn't be surprising.
"Valentina did prefer being an encompassing dragon in a limitless space, so I suppose it would make sense that taking form is moreso... Um... A compromise in existence to inhabit this plane... Or something like that. How on earth did anyone even GET the essence..."
"My godfather, mentor-figure at the time. He went by the name Novacaine Riesling, or Nova. He's crime boss, which I only learned when I came to San Diego from San Francisco. The serum did come from the black market. He wanted to see if it was the real deal."
"Dead. Killed him when the serum took to me. Right in the testing room. What happened was a blur, so I THINK he's dead, anyways. Valentina is sure she killed him."
Valencia sits back up properly.
"He practically raised me with my aunt and uncle. I was born with cloudy grey-ish eyes, doctor said I was blind, so he was my helper. Turned out I wasn't blind."
"Let's start at the childhood and end there." He points with his finger from beginning to end of the timeline that appears momentarily in fizzling white light.
