"So...he used your power, which originates from another plane to power a machine that would allow access to other planes? How did he know how to do all of this?"
"I think his laptop or equipment was confiscated or something. For the longest while, he kept making a big deal about the two of us being big deals, and in my case, me not accepting it. He was too cryptic to tell me anything, though to be fair, I kept stabbing his sore spot on what it's like to die..."
"His ability was to come back to life adapted to withstand what killed him. So for instance, he got crushed to death. When he came back to life, he had super strength. When he was electrocuted, he was zap-proof. Stuff like that. He believed himself to be a god. Well-spoken, not a liar, and I think he had a thing for blondes?"
"Yeah. The ones that eventually had a war with itself between a psychic and a sapper. They're probably laying low at the moment, if the ones still alive are out there. I don't know who experimented on Thanatos though. Maybe the sapper... May or may not be dead."
"Thanatos was disintegrated in the electric field generated by my chaotic essence in the hadron collider. My other half, the chaos-y one, was fighting him with Paradigm, so my memory is fuzzy from re-assimilating. Me, I was trying not to die at the hands of his friend, 'Death-Touch Kid', as I call him. HE died from possessing someone who sacrificed himself."
"I think I unloaded all this the moment I met you, but that WAS a long time ago."
She's like Marlin looking for his son, and Dory looking for her parents.
"Death-Touch Kid claimed he lived for centuries. Older than MAPP, so likely magic... He had a bunch of names, if I remember correctly, but the most famous name he had was 'Gilles de Rais'...? Like the French historical figure."
"That's what Thanatos told me while draining my ability. The kid even did a booming, speaking from everywhere but nowhere show while my other self and Paradigm were interrogating him."
"Gilles de Rais was supposedly killed centuries ago...he was part of an ancient order of magic that delved in the dark arts and the forbidden spells. You know, all that shot you're not supposed to do." He finds a page on the tablet and turns to show her a page with four drawings.
" Gilles de Rais the Necromancer, Conomor the Cursed, Docter Faustus the spellbinder, and Anne Bonney the pirate conjuror."
"Faustus rings a bell because of the demon artifacts. He trapped me in a bag for bit too. Do you think they're the sort to try tearing the world asunder like Gilly and Thanatos did for a bit?
"I didn't know any personally. I mean I saw Faustus, but you had more interaction with him then me. If I was to guess though I'd say they all had reasonings of their own." Eugene shrugs.
"Hmmm... It's not like they tried anything so far over the years, so I don't have any reason to go after them. Heck, it's not like they personally went out of their way to inject elder spirit essence in me, unless some cockamamie theory like my once 'blind' eyes being a tell of the essence being more effective on me checks out. Not everyone gets to be a chosen one."
Unless you count reality warping being the best prize to win in the power lottery. She shrugs.
"And I don't feel keen on learning magic from Faustus, since he's big on the forbidden arts."
"Well. I don't know about the other guys but if 'death kid' really was Rais then they have tried something!"
Eugene taps his chin a few times before speaking again.
"That's a good thought, though. Maybe not the blind eyes, but there's got to be some reason you were injected. Beyond why they chose you, why would they? I mean, what did they gain?"
