For a change of pace Zora has been instructed to meet with Mathew outside on the campus to meet with Mathew. They'd be off from the central area though so as to not disturb those going about their day.
She checks the communication on her email and huffs a little sigh. The name Mathew Amtrum rang a few bells, and none of them too great. Plus, she hadn't expected things to start so soon.
Shrugging on her jacket, she hoofs it over to the outer regions of the campus, looking for someone anyone who looked like they were waiting on someone. That would most likely be Mathew.
She'd find a gruff older man waiting in the courtyard with his arms folded over his chest. The left arm made of flesh and the right arm made of stone. He seemed to be staring at her and waiting.
"Sir, yes sir," she said, sharpening as she addresses the man with the respect her mother had drilled into her.
"Sorry, I, ah, this is a pretty big outer yard. No excuse, sir." She shrugs, rolling her shoulders a bit, partially out of nervousness. The only real authority figures she'd had to deal with in her life were her mother and grandfather, and while both were stern, they were still family.
This one wouldn't have a safety net, and somewhere inside, she was intimately aware of that fact. Her eyes gaze over his stone arm.
At his first word, she hardens. It was the answer she needed, anything after was just fluff. As such, when the earthen spike shot forward, she was ready.
She dodges to her left side and moves forward, pushing off from the side of the pillar with her left hand to further separate herself from the construct as she runs towards the man. She has one good trick for this, she just needs to get a little closer...
The earthen pillar is evaded as it zooms past her. His stone arm moved toward her, it's shape shifting into a blade intent upon impaling her shoulder as she got close.
The blade gets closer to her as she closes. She tries to cut it as close to the body as possible, but fear overtakes her and she moves a good foot and a half from the tip of the earthen blade.
She dives to her right, throwing herself into a shoulder roll towards Mathew's right side. As she comes up to a knee, her eyes narrow and she takes a sharp, deep breath. As she exhales, her entire body seems to explode.
She's replaced by a cloud of sand, surging forward as if fired from a shotgun. The tiny particles and their razor sharp edges surround and blow past Mathew, looking to graze even the tiniest droplets of blood from any exposed skin.
Somewhere in the back of her mind, it occurs what exactly this man's power is, but in the moment, there's no time for anything but action.
He doesn't even try to test if he can manipulate her in her sand form. When she explodes into sand the particles would scratch across his face and the exposed bits of his flesh arm. A few thin lines of blood would be drawn as his stone arm shifted once more to become an arm. The Earthen pillar crumbling back to the ground.
The sand swirls around him a bit before returning to the pile of clothes left behind. It begins to solidify as the form of Zoharin emerges from it. She shakes herself, some loose particles of sand dusting themselves off from her as she adjusts her clothes.
"You passed the basic course. Evaded a surprise attack and you were able to react quickly without hesitation or panic. You kept your composure. I think that is fair for the starting test."
Most people panicked and freaked out or goofed off. It was refreshing to finally have some agents that seemed to take this seriously.
She nods. She isn't sure she's satisfied with that, but knows there isn't any point to continuing. After all, if that's all it takes to get in and keep an eye on Taner, then so be it.
"Understood, sir. Thank you, sir."
She'd wait a moment to see if there was anything else, and then turn to leave.
She stops, looking over her shoulder at the older man's grin.
There was a moment of consideration. She had played with her powers in the past, but in such slight capacity - forming, reforming, moving around as a cloud, that sort of thing. To actually lash out in such a way had been eye-opening, exhilarating even. Part of her starts to realize what exactly her brother sees in this place.
But she wasn't here to prove herself to anyone.
"Sir, no, sir," she'd reply, turning to face him fully as is custom when addressing an officer. "I imagine this won't be the last time we meet like this, anyway, sir."
Her sternness drops, and a playful smile crosses her lips as she waves her goodbye. She's made straight As all up to this point, no need to end that streak yet.
He'd watch her leave. Half disappointed that she hadn't taken up his offer. She had an interesting power. And one that he was very interested in testing the limits of. But there would always be later.
