As always, she appreciates the buffer. After walking in silence for a bit, she looks down at her hands, fingers flexing against the material of her gloves as she speaks, quieter now than before.
"Yeah. Not just Paradigm but Chicago. You can't swing a bat without hitting another Metahuman. It's a far cry from there being maybe a dozen of us in my whole area."
"Yeah." She nods, remembering her first time to the city. "They're used to us. Metas. We're not automatically abominations here." She sighs and looks up at the sky instead, remembeirng.
"People actually accept us here. We're able to remember we're people."
"Very." Her voice cracks a little with her laugh. "I actually have friends here. If they know about my power, they don't care. They know I'm careful. And those who don't still know not to touch me and respect that. I'm not asked 'why' a million times by the same person, or poked and prodded by specialists. None of it. I'm almost normal here." Almost. She supposed metas could never be fully normalized, not everywhere, but it was a nice dream.
That gets another small smile out of her - and a blush!
"Th-thanks." Yeah, compliments are pretty new. "So are you." She laughs. "But I guess telling that to the folks at home wouldn't do us much good. Oh well."
It's the first time she's ever been told by someone that her power was worthwhile, and his reasoning was even more unexpected. The blush returns for a moment and looks back up to the sky, wrapping on arm around her torso, hand holding the sleeve of her shirt.
"Maybe, but we'd all be different if we had a different type of power. Right?"
"Good, because I like who you are, too." She nods, trying to ignore the awkwardness of her comment since she means it. Of all her friends, Mike is the most grounded, which means a lot to her some days.
"Thanks, Mike." She sighs. "Flying away from the problems would probably just mean they catch us eventually, anyway. But it's a nice dream sometimes."
A wicked little smile lights her face. "I like spooky things." Then she laughs, embarrassment forgotten. "The occult, actually. Otherwise, I guess I'm sort of normal? It just depends."
