Rebecca was beginning to regret her decision as she looked over the food available in the cafeteria. Even thinking about eating still left a sour taste in her mouth after all these years, but she'd had enough of physical conditioning over the years to handle the challenge at hand.
That, and she didn't want to go all the way back to her pod to make something there. At least they had appliances out here.
She hangs back a bit, hugging the walls and pulling a couple of small fruits and veggies, stuff that would only last the day before being replaced. Most annoying was the fact that it would probably cost her as much as a full tray of the food most people get.
Mike was standing in front of Rebecca, holding up the line as he looked at the different soups that they had out. He couldn't make up his mind, and he was just kind of staring at them with a furrowed brow.
Try something new with the encouragement and support of your friends! You can even blame them when things go horribly wrong!
"That's me. The ultimate dinner decider." She smiles at the preferred nickname and nods. "So, how have you been? You look a little...rough." Which was saying something, considering his power, but Mike did have a few bruises on him.
"You what?" She's got good hearing, but she wasn't entirely sure what possessed Mike to do what he just said he'd done.
"You let him..." She shakes her head and, rather than going directly to a table, goes and gets a cup of ice before heading to the blender next to the microwave.
"Did it work?" The device or his reasoning, Mike could determine which she meant on his own.
Well that was cryptic. It gave her something to mull over as she blended the food and ice into a smoothie, pouring into the cup the ice had been in before joining him.
"Might make the other person feel better." Rebecca shrugs and decides she might as well take the plunge. "But no, it wouldn't really help with that." She takes a deep breath, sighs, and starts to raise the glass to her lips before remembering that it's a glass...made of glass.
"Huh? Oh, yeah." She sets down the glass with a sigh. "I just have to be quick about it, I guess." Oh right. Rebecca, people don't live inside your head; they can't see your thoughts.
"I didn't feel like heading back to the pod, but I kind of forgot that there's no way to avoid contact with the cups here. The glass is going to decay when I start, so if I go quick enough, I'll only have to worry about brain freeze and not a huge mess." And the flavor. Why did she have to eat still to survive?
"...." Rebecca buries her face in her hands, fingers sliding through her hair as she groans.
"Sorry. I'm just so used to having to watch everything I touch that it's a habit to avoid a lot of things." She pulls her face away and grabs the glass again. "It does crystallize, though. Either way, it won't help the taste." Case in point as she takes a large drink, swallowing several times before putting it down with a deep breath and a shudder.
