"Don't give yourself too much credit," he scowls. "I just found out about this power like a month ago. I haven't been able to do a damn thing with it besides make water freeze and ice melt."
Valo doesn't take any of what Mat's saying seriously.
"What obstacle? What did I overcome? You made me change temperature under stress. But I didn't overcome anything. At least, nothing necessary. That's why I'm here in the first place."
Now, who does that remind Valo of? Oh, that's right: his father.
"And I don't think you know what you're doing," he snaps back. "Of course I'm "weak," I'm not like the rest of you. And of course I'm "afraid," I didn't want this. I don't know how to control it. So, astute observation skills, Mr. Amtrum, but if you can't offer me anything that isn't either cryptic or impalement, what the hell are you even doing here in the first place? What good are you as a trainer?"
"My purpose isn't to coddle you. If you want someone to hug you and tell you that the world is unfair than I suggest going to see one of the other faculty members. I don't care what you want, or if you feel this is unfair. Life is unfair. My job isn't to make you feel good about yourself. My job is to make sure you don't die."
This is the part she hates the most. A lot of knowledge, frequent practice, and yet nothing all the same.
"There isn't any." She scowls with the frustration. "I've managed to make some things rot faster, and I know fruit rots faster than other things, but that's it." She frowns, trying to recall. "There's also a small delay before a person can start showing the effects of my touch."
