It's her weekly appointment with Matthew and the goal of not getting impaled. Maybe even progress.
Rebecca enters the training room earlier than usual, having met with Matthew in his office already prepared to head this way. She looks towards the middle of the room as she enters, already expecting him to be there.
There he was. This time he was shirtless and barefoot. The maximum amount of skin showing as was decent. His stone hand was absently spinning the the wedding band on his finger.
Silence as she removes her socks, adding them to the pile and stepping forward. There's a small frown on her face, but it's more thoughtful than angry. It's her eyes that hold a harder light.
"If I let myself stay afraid of my power, I'm my own worst enemy. Useless. They've already won." There may be a bit of an echo of words she's familiar with beyond Matthew's remarks from last time.
His flesh palm moved forward toward her despite the range. The ground behind her would morph upward to slam into her back, excess metal melting off of the blob to form a serpentine Dragon.
She's expecting a blow from behind, but the strike with his flesh hand confuses her, right up until something slams into her back. She grunts and turns so that she's facing the new threat without turning her back on Matthew, eyes wide at the metal dragon.
She's not going to be able to rot that.
Shit.
Not standing around, she sidesteps again, then back. If she can deal with Matthew, then the dragon should go down as well.
Her jaw tightens at the mention of failure, but she doesn't say anything as there happens to be a metal dragon coming at her. She steps to the side and turns, keeping the dragon in sight.
Small flicks of his hand was all that was required to move his puppet as the room swelled and shifted to accommodate it's movement. It would move so that it kept itself between her and Mathew.
"Your power won't help you here. This is bigger than you. Beyond you."
The Dragon lunged for her again! Once more trying to snag her in it's mouth. All it would take was once and it was game over.
"Have you thought about going home? Quitting. Before you get yourself and others killed." He asked her mockingly.
Another dodge! She ducks and dives as the dragon lunges, feeling how close it is to catching her. She rolls and pushes up off the ground, circling around Matthew and the serpentine coils.
"I'm never going back there." Her face darkens at his question, voice hardening. "I'm not going back to hide under the covers for the rest of my life."
Mathew would keep circling the arena to keep his creation between the two of them.
"There are monsters outside of the covers."
This time the Dragon would leap for her, and if she dodged it would go into the wall, the metal reabsorbing into the room. Creating a seemingly clear path between her and Mathew!
She does dodge! She looks around, waiting for the dragon to reappear. She wonders where the dragon went and moves around Matthew again, not taking the rush but not doubting that the creature would just come up from the ground beneath her if she stayed put.
"Then I'll face them." He'd already called her killer, and she'd heard about the hospital. She'd gone against the Grave Digger and wasn't unaware of the fact that the Empire existed.
"If I go down against them, at least it's by choice."
Mathew's hand would move downward as large jagged spikes formed in the ground and the ceiling. Both of them would start crashing downward between her and Mathew. She was in the Dragon's mouth.
