Dressed in clothes she could sweat in, Piper had stretched and jogged to warm up her muscles before going to meet with Mat. She knew she wasn't late, but the fear of tardiness stuck as a lump in her throat.
She jogged over towards him, hair tied up in a ponytail and a look of pure determination on her face.
She had never tried to push herself past 65, and even that made her muscles ached. Piper meshed her teeth tight together and sprinted, her legs and arms tingling.
When she went to slide, she kept herself upright for the resistance, which made it easier to gather her feet underneath herself and keep going.
He'd watch her, his eyes following her progress as she zipped through the grounds toward the gate and back. He'd wait for her to get back to him before making her do it again. No rest.
"Faster. I don't know how they do things Down Undah," he said mockingly, "but here I expect more than a participation trophy."
That accent grated on her, but he achieved his desired effect. She slid just as she had before, managing not to trip, as she turned back towards the gate.
She had endurance, but come on, dude.
She pushed, her victim screaming and abandoning her power into the body they shared, and Piper moved faster. Her muscles were tense, her body moving in perfect sync.
He nodded, watching her move. Now it was time to see how she dealt with a distraction. He'd tap his foot just before she'd go for her slide and the ground under their feet would rumble and shake.
She went to slide and the ground rumbled. Mat. She was working with Mat. A wicked grin crossed her face and she timed her steps and slide. Turning, she slammed both open hands onto the ground in order to catch herself in starting position...
It was the same move, with the same reaction. The only different was how to affected her body. Her muscles pulled strong and sent her back, but it hurt more than the time before. She made a soft noise, but still managed to get back to him.
It would start out small. A few stone pillars shooting out toward her knees and legs. Any of which could break a leg or shatter a kneecap at her speed.
