She lets the silence fall over them for a while, taking solace in his belief in her again. Then, leaning towards the pile of papers she'd been working on - ignoring any protests he might have and ruining what would have been an enjoyable view for him if not in a hospital gown - she plucks one of the origami birds from the smallest pile. It was the ones with either no rot at all or only a small spec at an edge or two.
It had writing on it, but he'd have to unfold it to see everything on it. He could make out a few words and some doodles on the visible planes. At least it was a blue ink instead of boring black. There was no rot.
"Nah, but you did help me with getting my shit together and stuff. Plus I like you, so you know, a gift instead of a fist or something." She's joking. Sort of.
"If you unfold it, I'm not folding it back." It's not a no.
Who knew you could be so proud of a piece of paper with poetry and doodles on it. Well, mostly because it's not a rotted piece of paper, and she silently thanks the power for it.
That's going to take some getting used to.
"Welcome." She wiggles her fingers. "Sadly, no magic. Just good ol' skill and boredom."
"Nope," she agrees, happy to return to their usual dynamic as she sits back against the pillows. "Lady Reaper works better when you don't see her coming."
God dammnit, Eric. She did not just refer to herself in the third person by that super hero name! She looks downright mortified.
She can't help but laugh as Eric joins in the ridiculous banter. Of course he's super into it. She lifts the top blanket and gives it a light toss to fluff-bop him with it in the face.
"Dork." Look at that affection. It's almost like not being around assholes all day does her some good.
