"Yeah. It was pretty weird starting over. I was part of a pretty big social group back in school. Though we don't talk as much now. It's weird how quickly our lives all grew apart. How different our lifestyles are. They were stressing about finals and winter break and I'm hopping dimensions and stopping bank robberies."
"Yeah. It was pretty dumb. He was livid, obviously. Wanted to know who put me up to it and I just told him it was my idea and it was a joke. A lot of back and forth and my parents got involved."
Not fun, but he didn't sell out the others.
"Actually, that's why I ended up in Paradigm. They sent me here since they are specialists in dealing with children like me and hoped that having a positive outlet for my power would help. But I mean, I don't think I was a bad kid or anything."
Now he felt awkward and like he was rambling so he'd trail off.
"Kids like you, or kids like us?" She picks up when the rambling leaves off.
"Pretty sure you weren't. Not if how you act now is anything to go by. I'd probably be pissed, too, but that could have scared a lot of kids." She pushes past anything else he probably already knows about it.
"But you're you, Eric. And you probably do have a positive outlet for them here. More than one." Oh man, what's it going to be like with his family when she sees them on Christmas? She can't even imagine what they think a positive outlet for her power would be.
"And yeah, I'd say this tops that in the weirdness level." She pauses for a moment. "Not counting Operation Egg Drop Soup."
"Just, you know. Special needs. We have some unique challenges with our abilities for our parents to deal with. I mean, I imagine being a parent is rough in general. But imagine being a parent of someone with super powers. Especially if you don't have them. I mean, how do you even deal with that on your own?"
Which is why Eric has been in more programs than he could count.
"No, not in a bad way." She hadn't thought of it that way, though she could see why Eric was quick to change his wording.
Curse him for making sense sometimes, though.
"I can see that. I guess parenting in general is tough, and then you throw a curve ball into the mix.Not to mention other life stuff that has nothing to do with powers." A small frown, but it disappears quickly enough. "I guess that's why there's outside help and support."
"Yeah. I mean it sucked a lot having to do a bunch of programs as a kid. And I remember hating it and throwing fits because I wanted to be a normal kid and have normal friends. But looking back, I'm thankful for everything they did. Because I see some of the people we have had to deal with and I think. That could have been me."
