And all this mess is why Lucien usually doesn't do serious relationships. Sure, Rhett was violating the code of male friendship, but the heart wants what it wants, and Josh didn't seem to have the right idea either!

Why couldn't it be simple, like it had been in years past? They were friends, the Empire was the enemy, and they didn't let things get between what they had. There's obvious pain, here, and Lucien isn't sure he can make it go away so easily.

"Come on, there's a party and the gang's back together. Let's talk about all this after the holiday."

She had tried to stay out of it for as long as she could, standing there on her tiptoes in obvious discomfort. Then, snatching her tray of cookies, she slipped between the group with a brilliant smile.

"Cookies?" She piped up, glancing between the senior agents. "I made them from scratch. I could be wrong, but I think we're about to start the other festivities, too!"

Josh had a way of moving faster than her, she wasn't mad that his perspective was different it just made things...difficult.

"Anyway, I don't want anyone to go, okay? Otherwise I may as well bail and spend Christmas somewhere else and-"

She blinks and looks at the Cookie girl, forgetting what she was saying.

"Oh. Um. Thanks. And yeah..."

She takes a cookie with a small smile.
