Rebecca is grabbing lunch in the cafeteria! She doesn't feel the need to go all the way back to the pods, grabbing actual food, even if she does still avoid meat.
After paying, she looks around for an empty space!
With the talk of war the Cafeteria was buzzing with excitement and dread. People talking about their orders, where they were being shipped to. How they thought it would go. And in general just trying to enjoy the time they had left before everything changed. As it was most of the tables were full, or moderately busy with a few being sparsely populated. One of those tables had Mike, sitting alone eating a sandwich.
Rebecca considers sitting with Mike on her second round of checking for spaces. She can't help but think of what Rhett had said to her the night he and Jan Di had kidnapped her for game night. She'd told him she knew a burned bridge when she made one, but was it really that? Meh at if she could salvage it? Hell, she didn't even know if he was going off to war.
Only one way to find out.
"Busy place, huh?" She offers a tiny smile as she sits kitty corner from him on the opposite side of the table.
"I can see that." Her smile warms a touch at the words for a moment and she nods.
"Hoe have you been, otherwise?" Time to jump headlong into a pile of awkward. She may have food on her tray, but she's not touching it. Thinking about it is enough to make her nauseous with the way this could go hanging over her thoughts. But she had chosen this spot as well as to speak first, so no backing out now.
He'd look down at his sandwich as he tried to process what she was saying. It seemed like a stupid thing to lie about, and weird stuff happened all the time since Metahumans came into the mix. So he decided that she was telling the truth.
"That must have been weird. I'm glad you made it back safely."
"It was...a lot of things." She shakes her head. "Amazing, to go back in time, but kind of wary too? So much of it was unfamiliar, and we had this really aggravating girl with us. She acted like it was nothing." A small shrug.
"It was nice, too, though. We got to see the world in a way you can't in the present. Real stars and no light pollution. A marshal and sheriff and local tribe." She grins.
"A girl named alice. Apparently, she came from the future and traveled through a 'rabbit hole.'" She chuckles, her tone implying air quotes she doesn't physically make. "Pretty glib, made things difficult, just the usual things some people expect, I guess."
"I don't know. Her expression and voice soften for a moment. Hopefully Alice had made it back home to her own timeline - without any damage.
"But what about you? What have you been up to?" It didn't have to be missions; Rebecca missed talking and sometimes not-talking to Mike. He'd been one of her first friends here and she hadn't exactly done well in returning the favor.
"Yeah?" She nods a little, risking a metaphorical toe in the water. "I still need to come see you play sometime." Or not. She doens't want him to...well. A lot of things are what she doesn't want.
"Well it's still something, right? Doesn't have to be fancy." Not the same as the team he'd been kicked off of, but here there were surely other players, each with their own powers.
