Seeing her and hearing her voice brings back what happened, and brings his mood straight down, as if the morphine high doesn't even exist. He blinks, focusses, breathes, and seems more coherent when he opens his eyes, voice grave.
"Cool" it? Nicky's player doesn't get to complain about puns any more.
"Thanks."
Aaron would make a counterpoint to that, but she'd just told him to stop and didn't look inclined to hear more on the subject. It's not self deprecation so much as he went out hoping to learn and to show he's actually worth something, and came back having done neither.
Nicky's player knows there's a difference between using a common saying and searching for puns consistently to the point they have to be bolded to prove they were intentional. :^)
Good, because Nicky's not about serving people who are injured.
"It's honestly my bad. Yeah I said I don't babysit, but I didn't really have the time to teach you anything either." she sighs.
"But hey, whatever you think you screwed up, you...certainly paid for it."
He's not getting snippy with her, even giving her a little faint smile. It's just that dry wit that comes with near death experiences. Also whatever she's dancing around, he's too high on morphine to appreciate the vagueness.
"We have healers, and, maybe Matt? Or Val, she was with us and I know she can conjure stuff to help..."
Oh, God. His eyes stay where they were, horrified. Vaguely disgusted with himself. How can he do anything for anyone, how can he be worthwhile, how can he help people, like this?
Well, that's a stupid question, there's medical procedures, cybernetic parts are a thing, but forgive a man for being shocked.
Despite everything, Aaron was an agent, and he deserved some sort of company. She had heard about the... accident? Was it an accident? She shrugged as she wandered down the halls, pealing an apple with one of her knives. She seemed to be feeling better.
Stopping by his room, she leaned in, noticing he already had company. "Ah... Bad timing?" she asked, leaning against the doorframe and not entering the room.
There's a look of annoyance on her face as his first statement. Even if he hadn't meant is as one, Nicky took it as an argument.
"You read some pretty damn old reports, then. I get that you're a little desperate for a solution right now, kid. But you don't know a damn thing about magic."
"Luckily there's other options like-"
Nicky stops and looks towards the door. Almost in relief.
He's half high on morphine, desperate for some kind of solution, horrified and anguished. And still feeling pain. He straight up doesn't even acknowledge Leif, not as an intentional diss, just too focussed on Nicky.

She glances at Val as she shows up, to acknowledge her presence before looking at Aaron.
"Like prosthetics. Cybernetic limbs. A goddamn wheelchair? Or you could learn to live without your legs like many people have had to do before you. And they live completely functional lives."
Not lives like the kind he wants to live, not being agents. Not being heroes. Though yeah, prosthetics and cyber limbs are a thing, he knows that, in the current mindset fresh from all this they just didn't come to mind as a thing to say.
"I was going to look into those, wouldn't be the first time the docs have put prosthetics or cyber limbs on people..."
He tries to put some strength into his nod, though at the voices to the side and Nicky's glance over he looks and finally notices Val and Leif, blinking and looking ashamed - both at them seeing him like this, and how upset Val looks.
"Oh, God, Va- uh, Agent Tiao, are you okay? I'm sorry."
He tries to push himself up as if getting up to go over, but as he gets to the motion where he would normally swing his legs off the bed and stand, he looks pained both physically and emotionally before sitting back down. Leif isn't ignored either, as he gives her a wave.
