Nate stopped and paused. Front gate or rear gate? Which was more likely to be heavily defended. Nate starts to move around the building looking for alternate routes into the Palace.
Aaron unconsciously reaches out for Sarah's hand, but balks, not wanting to startle her.
"Hey, it's okay," he whispers to her, trying to keep his voice low - both to be soothing, and to not be heard by the guards. "This is all gonna be over soon."
Does Nate plan to walk around the whole compound to try and see if the back gate is unguarded?
The walls are ten feet high and topped with razor wire. There are also several sentry towers with spotlights posted along the wall. Aaron can see that there are dozens of guards in the area without counting other military personnel such as drivers, mechanics, and other roles associated with loading the trucks with supplies.
Mark doesn't see a good way to get to the supply depots without being seen. It would appear that his options would be to wait and hope for an opening. To go in guns blazing, or to try and set an ambush up for the trucks away from the base.
Angel alerts them about the suspicious group that had been reported entering the city and the flak jacket that had been discovered!
Sarah offers Aaron a glare, eye twitching as she fought to control herself, then turned back to Angel. Tossing her head, she went to follow after Mark.
"That's us, probably," Josh mumbles. He's taking up the rear of their loosely-knit group, trying not to look around too obviously; reliance on peripherals was key. Otherwise he might as well be whistling Dixie for as conspicuous as he'd be.
"By the way," Josh offered, still keeping his voice as low as possible, "Got reasons to suspect there might be a barrier of some sort over the palace. Maybe one of these compounds is a power station?" That's how he'd imagine it being set up in one of his D20 Modern games, actually!

That glare causes him more pain (in a metaphorical, emotional way) than the damaged nerves, easily, even with the pill he took. He follows, since standing around in front of the checkpoint isn't a good idea, and looks around to see if there's any spots that look like weak points in the security.
Surreptitiously, once he can, he'll turn on his comm, since Nate walked off, and whisper into it.
[COMM]: "Nate, can your illusions hide us from view? Maybe I can get us over the walls if you can keep us all from being seen."

Angel would sniff the are seeing if there were any paths through the walls that animals might have taken. They'd be too small but with a little work a small hole could get larger.
Angel can smell some paths of birds and rodents that had gotten into the compound. As well as dogs. But they didn't seem to lead to holes in the wall.
Nate would find that the wall holds around the whole complex with towers at fixed points and guards.
Aaron is starting to feel nauseous from the pain medication as well as tired!
Mark is able to backtrack and find what looks to be a quieter part of the city. Not as bustling as downtown though it wasn't deserted. But it could serve as an ambush, though it wouldn't go unseen. Does he wish to risk it?
Com: "I can't make us invisible, but I can make a lot more creatures that look like us moving in." He whispered quietly studying one of the corner towers as he seemed to keep moving as an illusion of himself kept walking away.

Given that Nate and now Mark have left the core group, Josh also casually flicks his communicator on while scratching his ear. If anything, it's just so he can listen in on everybody's conversations.
"Aaron," he repeats for everybody's sakes, "I think the palace is guarded by some sort of shield. Do you think we should locate a power source of some kind?"
Angel can probably assume the birds are able to fly. The rodents probably moved unnoticed through shadows and along the edge of the wall. And the Dogs were likely military trained dogs unless they were letting wild dogs run around the base.
Where was Nate moving and where was the illusion moving?
Nate was moving slowly in the opposite direction he'd come in, meaning to make full use of his time studying the tower, illusion Nate would be walking in the same direction he was already moving.
Aaron slows down, breathing deeply. Come on, not now...
[COMM]: "Bad idea, Nate, you'd stir up a hornets' nest. Meet back up with the rest of the group, we'll find a way in. I'll tell you if we end up needing a distraction."
Then Josh comms him!
[COMM]: "Any power source is probably going to be inside that shield. Angel and Mark look like they're following a lead, catch up with us. Once we're in, we'll find the source."
Then he follows Angel! He tries to pace himself to ward off the nausea and fatigue!
The next truck that he sees pass by has an escort truck and from what he could count 4 soldiers with it. All armed and armored. There also appeared to be a robed man in the passenger seat of the truck. Though the hood drawn over his face would make it impossible to discern more than that.
Josh waits a bit for Aaron to go ahead, then follows after him. The comm system should allow him to communicate with everybody, and keeping a distance allows everybody to remain at least somewhat less suspicious. On the flipside, it means having a few precious seconds of running before he can shield others if they get into trouble.
Angel can tell that the Dogs walked along the boarder of the wall before going further into the city. It appears they came and left from the front gate.
Those near the compound can see that they appear to be finishing up with refueling and supplying the last of the cars. Soldiers are starting to get into the escort vehicles as a group of robed men approached from further in the compound.
