"It's essentially your safe zone." Freya says, crossing her arms and cocking her hip.
"A space where your thoughts aren't just flooding through and your secrets aren't being thrown around. You can make it look however you want, but I'm assuming it looks this boring because you're concerned we'll pry."
Freya waits a bit until she realizes Rebecca wasn't going to liven this place at all.
She gives a soft sigh.
"We can't get to your inner thoughts from here. That's why it's a safe zone. But this zone is also your entry point. This is the place you'll want to seal off so no one wanders further back."
She points in a random direction.
"If you picture it like a building full of files, that's where your thoughts are. Really good psychics can filter through easily and it doesn't matter how many doors they have to barge through."
Sorta like what she did to her when they first met!
"Now then. Try to build up a wall and we'll try to smash through. If it's not strong enough, it's going to hurt." she smiles.
She nods, looking around with a quiet sigh as she begins to form a wall for them to test. A lot of what Freya had said made sense.
A wall forms behind her as the safe space lightens a bit, though barely. Probably due to the haze that's covering everything. The wall itself looks to be made of thick steel.
The pain's milder than she expected. She tries again with a frown. The wall is thicker this time but, after a moment, it becomes clear it's not just the same wall with a thicker breadth. Words emerge from the steel, constantly moving and shifting around the wall and branching out to the area around it. Different fonts, colors, and words, and none of them Rebecca would use to describe herself.
She feels a little better at that reaction and nods.
"Yes. And more." She looks at Destiny again, mulling over how much she should tell, then looks back at the wall, eyes following a few of the words. "For the wall itself, yes. I'm guessing it's my envisioning as well as strength of mind." Considering she was dealing with psychics, after all.
"The rest." She waves a hand at her creation. "It moves. Deflect the blow that goes against it." She pauses, frowning again.
"I guess it could also be dangerous to have it tied to a reinforcement, but the idea is that it would normally blend more with the rest of the appearance here." And words because she likes and hates them. They build up and tear down. Insert monologue here.
"It wasn't a bad idea, but let me put it simply. Imagine less, and think harder."
As she says that, Freya reels her fist back and once she hits the new wall, it shatters! This time Rebecca would feel a large impact.
"You're thinking too much about things that work in real life. This is your mind. Your wall has to be as strong as your will. Do you like being hurt? Then try HARDER or they WILL expose you. Repel! Block! You were on the right track with strength of mind. Forget the special effects!"
She may have partially been on the right track, but Freya's blow is enough to block out the words for a moment with the rift of pain Rebecca feels when the wall is destroyed. She braces her knees and glares, but the look is quickly directed at the wall. Too complicated and fancy, and not enough will. Well, it was a start.
This time, the wall takes a bit more to form. It's heavier, thicker, and pitch black. Nothing fancy about it, but Rebecca pours all her determination into it. To not be weak. To keep out people she doesn't want, including the young woman instructing her. To protect this place, this one space that was safe for her as long as others didn't go prodding her mind.
She hated when people did that. She hated people who felt they could for their own reasons. She hated the reasons almost as much as the people.
This time, whoever took down on the wall next would feel her pushing them away when they tried to reach it. Just like she had everyone else.
Rebecca turns her attention back to the wall with a small frown at the criticism, trying to see if she can find the cracks in her own defense before Freya does.
More pain. She sucks in a breath, but at least it's not the whole wall this time. Progress, then, even though she needs more. Her brows knit as she looks at the wall where she saw the crack, wondering what it would take to keep them fully out.
The wall rebuilds as she focuses a bit more on blocking the incoming attack, whomever it would come from. If there were cracks, there were ways for her to slip up, and she refused to let the same thing happen over and over.
This was her mind, after all. No one got in unless she wanted. Not Freya, not Silas, not even her friends unless she wanted to let them see what she hid from most of the world.
"She sealed this side properly. Any more somewhere else?" Freya asks, tapping against the wall.
As much as she enjoyed smashing Rebecca's defenses, she was far more interested in getting the girl to perfect it. Freya doesn't teach someone for them to be left mediocre.
This was was going to be sturdy even if she had to break them all night.
Destiny's words have her attention as much as her giggle. Rebecca turns to the woman, listening with that ever present frown, then looks back at her own wall with a small twinge of pride in succeeding. Small, because she now had a new challenge.
